McAfee Real-time scanning results in Excel being unable to open

I have been experiencing a consistent issue with McAfee Real-time scanning preventing Excel 2013 from opening any documents.  Excel will get locked on a "Running virus screen" message when opening a document, occasionally displaying a message that it is waiting for an OLE request to complete, forcing me to shut the program down via Task manager.  If I disable Real-time scanning via the Total Protection app it will be able to open the file normally.  Word 2013 does not result in the same issue; I've also tried to disable requests from other applications in Excel itself and that did not solve the issue.  Is there any way for me to make an exception for Excel in the Total Protection software so I can prevent this issue while still keeping Real-time scanning active for other applications?  Thank you.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused. Our engineering team is working on this issue. Meanwhile, we request you to remove and reinstall McAfee once. Check if the issue persist and update us the status.
