I currently use File Lock program to create vaults to keep confidential information on my PC locked away from another person who shares my PC sometimes. I understand that McAfee is removing File Lock from Total Protection in February 2022. I am looking for the best alternative to File Lock that is either FREE or of little cost since I thought the annual cost of McAfee would include File Lock. I do not require government grade security, but looking for a good product that is either Free or a one time low purchase price. Hopefully someone has recommendations or has been down this road and has recommendations. Thanks.
Hello @LongTimeUser721 ,
We deeply regret for this situation, as of now we are yet to receive an update or recommendation on this. We will continue to look into this and get back to you once we have an proper update or recommendation.
But your argument to remove these package was : there are many other solutions available.
Please send us only one of these solution to migrate before these functionality is history

in addition i would like to add that if you use windows 10 onedrive you can set up personal vault in there aswell. this provides an extra layer of security to store sensitive files.
support ms article about this feature;
One of my questions was answered. Thank you! I have two more. Why did McAfee allow me to go through the process of setting up my first vault BEFORE telling me it will be useless in 3 months? It was a waste of time. And secondly, does McAfee plan to share the money it saves when it no longer has to sustain this service? I suggest a modest refund to all customers who paid for the service when they subscribed. I just thought of one more. Does anyone from McAfee read these forums? I just wasted even more time registering for this so I could reply. Thanks for reading.
When will McAfee have a replacement at no cost or at least refund part of our annual subscription. They will force me to go elsewhere to get virus protection that has this feature as part of it's function.
I think that McAfee is underestimating the impact on their users. I just spent 4 and a half hours researching different options and then going through the process of purchasing, downloading and migrating to the new product. McAfee has always been a totally class act - this is disappointing.
I totally agree with you. I spent twice as long trying different products. I did not want to pay any additional annual fees, so I went with a product called SecretFolder which is freeware and does about the same as what McAfee Vault does. by providing a locking mechanism for a directory or directories that require a password to enter. Seems to work on Windows 10, but I would only say it worked for me up until now. I even tested the change password process which actually worked. We all should hope that the renewal price of McAfee goes down now that they removed functionality. If now, the user community should revolt and try to find another alternative to McAfee. They used to be much better before being purchased by the larger corporate entities........now we suffer.
If you are running Windows 10 this works.
Go to Microsoft store and type 'Folders and Files Locker - Fast and Secure' in the search box. Give it a try, its free and I'm currently testing it. Is it the best? No idea as I say I'm testing it and it has so far done what I want it to do.
