"Restart computer before using" doesn't work

I had to re-download and install the McAfee Security Suite, Cox Cable (included in the price), which I have used regularly. Everything about the installation seemed ok and the M logo appears on the Windows taskbar. But when I attempt to open the Security Center I get a message that in order to use it I have to restart my computer, which I have already done several times but with no success. Clicking on the logo will Check for Updates and Verify Subscription.
Can anyone please help me out? I may be protected but am not at all certain about that.
Thanks much from Elizabeth

"Restart computer before using" doesn't work

Many thanks for the reply. I followed your instructions for Windows XP to delete the given file in Startup (the file name on my computer was $McInstBootA5E6DEAA56$) and the Security Center became immediately available to open with no "restart your computer before using" message. Now all is well again.

The only change I had previously made to my machine was to re-install the McAfee application from the Cox website.

Thanks again from Elizabeth
