Hi,
I've encountered and strange and worrying occurance with my McAfee SecurityCenter. I don't normally have any problems with it but today, after being online only a couple of minutes on amazon.co.uk, a warning message flashed up stating my "device was not fully protected" - the Real-Time Scanner was "starting up" instead of "on". I always check the status screen before going online and everything was "on" beforehand.
After disconnecting and waiting a few minutes it turned itself back on and thankfully has stayed that way. I recently ran a manual updatecheck and now have the following (I haven't included Firewall/AntiSpam here):
McAfee SecurityCenter
Version: 12.8
Build: 12.8.992
Affld: 105
Last Update: 14/11/2014
Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware
Version 16.8
Build: 16.8.821
Last Update: 12/01/2015
Engine Version: 2130.0
Engine creation date: 12/01/2015
Since this hasn't happened before, could it be due to the latest update, or something else?
I've run scans with MBAM and MVT and found nothing.
Thanks.

Something may have updated and often even if it doesn't ask you to do so, a reboot helps.
I've had it happen here on occasion so it isn't anything to worry about I don't think.

Thanks for the reply, Ex_Brit.
I'm glad it doesn't seem to be anything serious - nothing else has happened since. It was just a bit alarming as I've never experienced this before.
You're welcome and all the best 😉
Hi,
Thought I'd update this as I just got the above message again, oddly when I was offline. The only programs I was using at the time were Windows Media Player and a graphics program called Paint Tool SAI, both of which never usually cause problems. As before, the Real-time Scanner turned itself back on after a minute or so and MVT finds nothing. Any ideas what could cause this to happen offline?
Run GetSusp after having set your email in preferences, if you want the labs to let you know the outcome.
Thanks for the quick response, Ex_Brit.
I've run getsusp, which found 2 unknown files but no suspicious ones. I ran getsusp last year with similar results - I can't remember the names of the unknown files but they didn't appear to be dangerous. Is there anything else I can do in the meantime before McAfee labs email the getsusp results?
Actually, please ignore that last post - I just got an email stating only logs were submitted, not samples. How do I submit samples of the unknown files?
I definitely had "samples" checked, that's why the email response puzzled me.
I'll try the group you suggested later - thanks.
