Since I shut my computer off when I'm not on-line, I haven't been getting automatic updates. So I manually ask for the daily dat. Sometimes when they start to download I get the Word ERROR and the download stops. I check the McAfee websiteand the dat file is shown as available.
What is causing this? The latest dat error was dat 6223

I update daily manually. Just recently getting the error occasionally ~ No Proxy, but an interesting link.

Hi there,

Search and open the folder that says etc
Right click on the file that says Hosts and select Open with
Use Notepad to Open with.
Make sure that your host file looks like the one below , any additional entries below 127.0.0.0 could be removed and save the host file accordingly.
Then,
Click on Start - Click on Run
In the open prompt type - cmd and press OK
In the command prompt , please type ping download.mcafee.com (there is a space after the word ping)
Please report back if we receive a valid eply from the site or any loop back address.
Please attach a screen shot of the error that you receive while updating , that woud help us drill this down further.
