Your computer is not protected - Real-time scanning disabled

I've got 5 PCs running Internet Security here, all of which have started giving "Your computer is not protected" errors today - but it's not the normal SystemGuards issue (which has been ongoing for 18 months).

Today they're all giving:

- Real-time scanning is disabled
- Spyware and potentially unwanted program scanning is disabled
- IM scanning is disabled
- Script scanning is disabled
- Buffer overflow protection is disabled

Clicking fix seems to resolve it, but the next time SC checks for updates, back it comes.
Has the latest update broken something?

Software versions:
SC 9.3
VS 13.3
DAT 5692.000
Engine 5301.4018

All machines are on McAfee own-brand releases (not OEM) and are on XP SP3 with IE8 or Win2k.

I'm having the same problem. I turn the things back on, but they turn off again in a little while. I ran MVT and got an "there's an error that can't be fixed" message. I uninstalled then reinstalled security center as per technical support's suggestion, and it is still doing it. I assumed virus or malware issue, but maybe not?

I have the same problem since this day.
McAfee Version says, that only "VirusScan" was updated yesterday...

Please fix that.
(When other users have the same problem since the same day I don´t think it´s malware...right?)

I hope not! I am in no way an expert. It did make me feel much better to see that someone was having the exact same problem and that it started at the same time.

RE: Your computer is not protected - Real-time scanning disabled

My first thought was an infection, but since it's happened on 5 PCs here on the same day (2 of which are file servers and not actually used for browsing etc), I reckon that can be pretty much discounted.

RE: Your computer is not protected - Real-time scanning disabled

I have been having the same problem for a week. I upgraded Security Center to Version 9.11 which didn't change anything. I then re-installed 9.11 following instructions from Ex_Brit. The disabling does seem to happen a little less often but is is still happening.....twice so far today.

I ran MVT with the following results: Session ID 19465934

8 problems found. I registry entry problem fixed, 7 missing files.

RE: Your computer is not protected - Real-time scanning disabled

All I can say is that McAfee are aware that this issue continues to bug some people. It shouldn't be happening as they have supposedly licked the problem. Anyway, they are working on it and an update soon (I hope) should fix it.

Regarding the MVT missing files, that is an error and is not correct, there is a problem with the MVT server apparently. So ignore the missing files statement.

RE: Your computer is not protected - Real-time scanning disabled

One of McAfee's senior technicians has just given us this..

We are seeing a high volume of 'Multiple items disabled' in SecurityCenter today.

AVERT is currently looking into this.

To repro the issue;

reboot, check for McAfee update once back into Windows
update will finish and within a few seconds McAfee will say 'Not fully protected'
within about 30 seconds, it goes back to Protected.

This issue seems to resolve itself and only seems to occur once per reboot.

Do you mean the SystemGuards issue there though?
I've had that for over a year, but this seems to be a different issue.

Looking at your second post though, hopefully it's being looked at.

The Systemguard issue is supposed to be fixed in 9.3, or at least, if it happens the fix option should work.
The above was regarding recent updates causing various issues needing fixing.
We are told that the 2010 products are designed differently and that wont be an issue at all....here's hoping.
They aren't in public beta yet so I have no idea what they are like.
