Windows error messages after update

Hello,

Everyday after receiving updates for McAfee SecurityCenter windows XP professional comes with several error messages. I have contacted several times the service desk and had also some chat sessions. All the actions they suggested did not solve the problem. I would like to attach some screen prints, but this option is not available to me.

Regards,

Jack Schuurkes

RE: Windows error messages after update

What is your operating system and service pack and are you up to date with Microsoft updates?

Double-click yout taksbar icon to open Security Center and then click "About" and post the versions of each module.

You can post images when they are hosted on one of the free hosting sites such as Photobucket or Imageshack in the format
Make sure they aren't too big otherwise navigation here becomes difficult.

Hi Peter,

All your questions are answered in a word document that you can find at this address:

It is called McAfee Error.doc

All the window updates are installed.

RE: Windows error messages after update

OK I read the doc, unfortunately I'm not familar with Dutch. Do you or did you have any previous protection software installed?

Have you tried the following:

1, Check for spyware with the free version of this tool: http://www.superantispyware.com/superantispywarefreevspro.html

2. If you are running Internet Explorer 7 go to Tools/Internet Options/Advanced and click the Reset button. OK and exit, close and reopen IE7.
You will have to-enable all the browser add-ons.

If Internet Explorer 6 - go to Tools/Internet Options..
General tab: clear cookies, history and temporary files
Security tab: set all zones to default
Content tab: disable Content Advisor
Advanced tab: set to default. OK and exit.

3. 1. Uninstall all McAfee programs through "Add or Remove Programs" in Windows "Control Panel".

2. Use the MCPR tool, see this article: How to remove supported McAfee consumer products using the McAfee Consumer Products Removal tool (MC... This will remove all McAfee remnants from your computer. (you must have Windows Vista, XP or 2000 SP4 to use this tool)

3. Launch Windows Explorer and delete all McAfee files in "Program Files" but especially in "C:\Document and Settings\<user>\Application Data" and "C:\Document and Settings\All Users\Application Data". You have to set Windows Explorer to show all hidden files and folders (Tools > Folder Options > View tab). Just delete the McAfee folders even if they are empty in all the "Application Data" folders. Can be more than one!
In Vista: C:\Program Files, C:\ProgramData and C:\Users\yourname\AppData\Roaming
Don't worry if you find no such files or folders.

4. Reboot and redownload/reinstall your McAfee products directly from your account at the McAfee web site, not from any CD that you may have.

RE: Windows error messages after update

Hi Peter,

I did all the steps you suggested in your posting, but I still get the same windows error messages.

They all seem to concern this: zAppName : mcsync.exe szAppVer : 9.0.260.0 szModName : mcutil.dll
szModVer : 9.0.207.0 offset : 000127c9

Maybe this .dll is corrupt in any way?

Jack:(

RE: Windows error messages after update

Are you having a Dell machine?

does it say application syncronisation has stopped working?

if yes then you need not worry those dlls aare not critical and will not affect the functionality of the products too.

its annoying but will cause no harm:)

RE: Windows error messages after update

Hi Vinod,

Yes I have a Dell Vostro 200S.

and the error messages are concerning the

  • VirusMap Reporting Module
  • Synchronization Application Module
  • SecurityCenter Intrumentation

and yes it is very annoying to get these error messages at random moments.

Are the technicians working on this problem?:(

yes.. and like i said.. it will do no harm adn you are fully protected.. as far as i understand this is due to some issue onthe DELL support centre software on the machine...... anyway you must still be protected and ok

RE: Windows error messages after update

OK Vinod,

I will wait for an update for DELL computer users.
However before the certain update everything was working fine for me.
Isn't it strange that the QA department of McAfee didn't come across this problem
at testing time?
