Vista Ultimate was the last great (& complete) OS, that MS ever put out and I loved it, nothing has been quite the same since and it's not entirely MS's fault, remember all those lawsuits from the European Union forcing MS to break up its OS into parts and at least one from the US Government because someone in a boring civil service job decided they were a monopoly, which of course they never have been really. But we digress from the OP's subject.
True...Gotcha We did sway off topic.
I just made an account to say that everything exbrit ist writing here ist wrong. Every sentence.
The registry tweak in the question part ist atm the only way to disable defender in Windows 10 fyi.
On server 2016 you are able to remove Windows Defender from the features list.
Both actions require restarts to take effect.
Nothing will "clash" if you do not disable defender.
I beg your pardon? I take exception to your first line.
First this thread is old and what applied back then may not be relevant now.
Secondly, I was a Microsoft MVP and should know something about such things.
Thirdly I think you misread or misunderstood things.
FYI Windows Defender can simply be turned off, no need to disable it completely.
I am asking the Moderator to lock this thread.

After upgrading to latest version of Internet Security I hit a problem with Windows Update attempting (and failing) to update Windows Defender.
This didn't happen on all my PCs - only on those that had started life as Windows 7 and upgraded via W8 to W10.
Searching various Microsoft Sites I found a Registry hack that fixed it see below
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

"DisableAntiSpyware"=dword:00000001It appears that Security Centre doesn't fully disable Defender at start-up.

This has all changed with the latest Win 10 1703 and beyond updates.
I suggest starting a new thread if the problem continues. However best post in Win 10 forums rather than here.
I have numerous updates for windows defender that have failed to install is this because I have Mcafee installed?
Having McAfee shouldn't stop Windows Defender from updating however i will have this validated in our lab machine. Could you help me with the KB IDs of failed Defender Updates ?
