Windows File Protection and McAfee Security Center

Hi there, I need your appreciated help.

I  just upgraded McAfee Security Center and every few minutes i keep getting a "Windows File Protection" box popping up.the box says "Files required by Windows to run properly have been replaced by unrecognized versions. Windows must restore the original versions of these files. Insert your Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 CD-ROM now."

If i put in the cd and then remove it hours after i get the popup again.

Is there any way to make this stop?

Every time restart the PC video card drivers are lost.

  1. Operating system Windows XP SP3
  2. McAfee security center last date upgrade 2011-07-17
  3. Video Card Radeon X1650 Series

Thanks in advance.

Juan M

Re: Windows File Protection and McAfee Security Center

When you upgraded McAfee Security Center did you use the MCPR removal tool? MCPR is found at the top of this page under Useful Links and it essentially cleans all the McAfee related files out of your system. It seems as though some corruption has occurred so a fresh install of McAfee needs to be done.

Go to Add/Remove programs and uninstall and reboot the computer. Run MCPR and reboot again. Login into you online McAfee account and download and install your software and you should be good to go.

Godd Luck

Re: Windows File Protection and McAfee Security Center

Thanks, I following your instructions and I have reinstall McAfee Securty Center with MCPR.

Now I don't receive the alert box says "Files required by Windows...", but Windows Security Center Alert popup:

  • Your computer might be at risk: Antiviurs software might not be installed, click this balloon to fix to problem;
  • The firewall has been disabled

Can you help me?

Re: Windows File Protection and McAfee Security Center

Re the 1st question this thread shows the issue seems to be in xp sp3 only Mcafee is looking into it.

Re the reinstall that seems not to have worked

Follow this

http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?lc=1033&id=TS100507

roughly what Tom posted reboot and run

http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/Mcpreinstall.exe

reinstall from your account ensure no other antimalware program installed

Re: Windows File Protection and McAfee Security Center

Yes the issue is here

https://community.mcafee.com/thread/36177?start=0&tstart=0

I posted the incorrect link another poster has ati issues as well. If you can run a MER program run as I asked at the last couple of posts

https://community.mcafee.com/message/199407#199407

Mer is found at mer.mcafee.com and needs to be accessed via Internet Explorer

Run it choosing the option consumer falcon and save to a file which I will get you to email to me.

Do not choose upload as it will get lost.

Any assistance helpful I sent my logs as well though my issue low key.

Re: Windows File Protection and McAfee Security Center

Here we go again...

Another uninstall / reinstall run around.

JuanMercado mate - this is EXACTLY the issue in this thread...

https://community.mcafee.com/thread/36177?tstart=0

Don't waste your time uninstalling / reinstalling the buggy McAfee software - you need to disable the real time scanner, which does not work correctly with Windows XP SP3.

When oh when will someone (anyone) from the big M make a technical reply to this ongoing and growing problem???
