Also let us know some of the following details ;

In the open prompt type - drivers
Search and open the file that says : etc

Right click on Hosts and select open with

Choose Notepad to open the program.

Make sure that your Host file looks like the one below; any additional entry below 127.0.0.1 could be deleted and save the host file accordingly.

Host file1.JPG

Then,

Click on Start - Click on Run

In the open prompt type cmd

In the command prompt window - type - ping download.mcafee.com (there is a space after the word ping)

Re: Unable to turn on real time scanning/unable to update .........

Hey there,

I'm having the same issue, it started suddenly a few hours ago.

I ran a Mcafee scan of my C drive, no results

I ran getsusp since I had the virusscan bug a little while ago (thought i took care of it), but getsusp appears to show no results

I downloaded and ran stinger, it found 1 infected file with the FakeAlert!Virusless Trojan. Its said it was deleted.

I went through the steps listed above and there was an additional IP address, I deleted and saved it.

I cant think of anything else to do and my comp appears clean but I still cannot update Mcaffe or turn on realtime scanning.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Also, I downloaded MVT but something is blocking it from accessing the internet during the install process

Re: Unable to turn on real time scanning/unable to update .........

Click on Firewall > Settings > Program Permissions

Is MVT there?

Also, an infection may stop things from accessing the internet, such as changing DNS or LAN settings.

Re: Unable to turn on real time scanning/unable to update .........

Actually yeah, MVT is there

I'm only having a problem with Mcafee and windows updates accessing the net, everything else seems to function as normal

Re: Unable to turn on real time scanning/unable to update .........

1.    Please  open Internet Explorer and click Tools -> Internet options.

2.    Please  click on Connections tab.

3.    Click LAN Settings… and a window named LAN Settings will open.

4.    Please  uncheck all options and click on Ok.

5.    Please  close Internet Explorer window.

See if it works after this.
