The Microsoft Live Messenger 2009 (v14) Video Conferencing feature does not work afte

I found a post for a possible fix, but I can't find the '[msnmsgr.exe]' file in the McAfee folder.

Here is the solution I found on line:

Description

Due to changes in the new version of Live Messenger 2009 (v14), you may be unable to use the webcam and video conferencing features when SiteAdvisor is installed.

McAfee is aware of this issue, and is working toward a resolution.

Solution

As a workaround, McAfee recommends configuring SiteAdvisor to stop monitoring Live Messenger.

Navigate to the following folder:

Windows XP/2000/Vista (32-bit): C:\Program Files\McAfee\SiteAdvisor

Windows Vista (64-bit): C:\Program Files (x86)\McAfee\SiteAdvisor

Right-click on the file sasets.ini and choose Open With, then select Notepad.
Locate the section titled [msnmsgr.exe].
Change Enabled=1 to Enabled=0.
Click File and select Save.
Close sasets.ini and restart your computer for changes to take effect.

Any ideas how come this file is not installed on my computer??

Thanks

Thais

Hello Thais,

Are you trying to look for the msnmsgr.exe file under the C:\Programs Files\McAfee\Site Advisor\ folder (or) in the sasets.ini file?

It's in my sasets.ini file, did you scroll down in Notepad?

RE: The Microsoft Live Messenger 2009 (v14) Video Conferencing feature does not work afte

I did

The problem is that i only see a 'sasets' file NOT a 'sasets.ini'

O have opened the 'sasets' file, performed the change in the 'Enable' field but as I try to save it the screens prompts that the file already exists and does not accept the changes.

Any suggestions?

PS - Thanks for the help.. I am not a 'tech' person so if you have any suggestions a 'step by step' on 'how to' would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

To see that .ini you would have to have settings as shown in the attached thumbnail (click to enlarge) under Tools/Folder Options/View.

As far as not being allowed to change it, I just tried with mine and got the same reaction. Maybe BalaSGS can enlighten us.

I contact MacAfee and their support tolde me that in order to be able the change, you have open the file in the Notepad under the system administrador (run as administrador) profile.

Click on Start>> All Programs>> Accessories
Select Notepad and right click then select "Run as Administrator" option.
Click File and open Navigate to the following folder: C:\Program Files\McAfee\SiteAdvisor
Select "All Files" as Files of type and select sasets.ini file and click on Open
Locate the section:
[msnmsgr.exe]
Enabled=1
Type1=0
Type2=0
NotifyChange1=0
NotifyChange2=275
EnumID=7

Change the Enable section from 1 to 0 and save

Restart your computer and it should take care of the issue.

I have not hada chance to try it but once I do I will post here whether or not it worked.

Thank you all for the help

Sorry, I never even thought of that. It will most likely work, although I get a "cannot create" type of error after saying yes I want to replace sasets.ini.
