This happens to me too

Every time McAfee auto updates the entire suite and I have to reboot to put it into effect..my virus protection turns itself off. I turn it back on but it keeps doing it. This happened after three incidents of total suite updates in the past few months. I got some awful porn IM pop up in my tray last time this happened 4/19/09 and then a 'personal antispyway' program thing kept coming into my browser no matter what page I was on. Took me a while to clean it up in the cookies, registry, etc. This is very disturbing.

I ran virtual technician just now and it said it found some errors and I looked at the logs and saved them but it didn't tell what the problems were that it fixed and everything shows 'ok' in the log . Time will tell I guess.

Something is obviously wrong with the suite updater since this keeps happening to me after a complete update runs. How do I report this?

Thanks

RE: This happens to me too

The last time this happened for me was after McAfee auto-updated itself. This is getting really annoying. I'm close to getting in touch with McAfee customer support and demanding a refund of some sort and going with a different company and software package.

YEP..same issue here

I agree..its really getting annoying and potentially dangerous. I switched to McAfee from Trend Micro (which I paid yearly for) when Comcast offered complete McAfee suite for free last year. Really like the product and the auto update process until recently. They have a problem and no one seems to give a darn and goodness knows there are plenty of complaint all over this forum. Bad Bad customer support but since I get it free...stuck! Rots o'Ruck getting a refund.

Add another unhappy user, same problem

I've been having the "Not Protected" problem off and on for about a month.

Also periodically get asked to verify my subscription.

Also noticed when updates are being installed it often prevents keyboard entry to whatever program I'm using at the time.

I've gone back to postings from February and tried all the "fixes" suggested. Just happened again today. (4/20)

About time someone came up with a "real" fix.

This getting to be a real hatitual problem

-------------------------

I have not had to verify my subscription nor not be able to use keyboard during updates thank goodness but just having it turn itself off is enough to drive us all nuts AND possibly get infected when the PC sits there unprotected when we are not using it at the moment. Thats what really concerns me. I just wish some McAfree moderator or guru would see all these forum threads.

I am having this same problem.

It bothered me so much today that I connected trying to get help for the Mcafee support.

The chat folks don't seem to be too helpful unless it's on their preprogrammed response tree. The one today pretended to "fix" something, then basically hung up the chat on me without warning or actually doing anything.

10 mins later it shut off again...

Here's the chat info incase Mcafee wants to follow up:

- Service Request #: 292240640
- Created Date: 04/22/2009 14:31:25
- Description: Mcafee turns itself off intermittently and pops up a message that it is turned off.

Not sure really, but seems to be caused by the Mcafee real time processing timing out when it is trying to read a file in the background. When it can't it times out and turns off, popping up a message that it is turned off. And sometimes asking for verification.

This makes it look intermittent because one cannot predict when Mcafee will do this.

No help so far, seems like a mini epidemic that's being ignored. Help! Not much fun waiting on chat to get someone who can't help.

Mcafee if you are listening your users need help! And they are being polite.

RE: I am having this same problem.

-------------------------
I agree that it is a mini epidemic and now I dread seeing any auto update. I quizzed their chat about 9.3 being available and fixing issues. They said it was not in general release yet but also heard that Comcast had 9.3. I called Comcast and they said the latest version was available so I went thru the process to remove and reinstall and guess what? Its STILL 8.1 version. I was livid. Guess neither of these companies know what is going on. The 'disabling' thing seems to settle down about a week after a major auto update but then starts again after another update.

RE: I am having this same problem.

I have 9.3, it's what they auto-updated me to in one of the updates in Jan or Feb. So it's in general release. I think it's the only version they sell at the moment. And it doesn't fix the issues, possibly makes them worse. Just a heads up, those folks don't know what they are talking about.
