Problems installing VirusScan portion of the Suite

Hi,
I've now tried five or six rounds of removal (using both the tool and manual deletion) and installation with DMSetup. I had a subscription to Total Protection until a few days ago, and cleared everything off my system to prepare for installation of Internet Security. First I was having a problem with "server access" but tried deleting temporary internet files and that did the trick. Now I'm able to begin the download but I keep getting the same message: "We're sorry, but we are unable to remove one or more threats from your PC." As far as I can tell I am removing everything, even twice or three times through before an attempt. I've noticed that each attempt re-created the McAfee folder within Application Data but presence/absence of this folder has done nothing to change the result. Any ideas? Thanks for your time.

RE: Problems installing VirusScan portion of the Suite

You probably have spyware installed. Run the free versions of these two tools and remove anything they find:

Then try to install again.

Hey, thanks for your reply. Unfortunately I'm still having no luck. I ran both of them, did find some spyware/malware, ran again until clean, restarted, ran the removal tool once more, restarted, attempted installation and I'm still getting the same message immediately after the AntiVirus has downloaded.

RE: Problems installing VirusScan portion of the Suite

Well, as far as I can tell, a virus scan was what I needed. My next step was going to be trying that HijackThis program but first I downloaded AVG, scanned and found a couple corrupt files. Upon deleting those the installation went farther than before, stopping eventually for the same reason as before but this time it specified: AVG needed to be removed. After doing so, the installation went fine. I appreciate all the advice.
