Personal Firewall and VirusScan Issue

I have noticed that when I check "Windows Security Center" on Windows Vista (32-bit), under the firewall section, it lists that "McAfee VirusScan reports that it is currently turned on," instead of "McAfee Personal Firewall reports that it is currently turned on," as it once listed. Has anyone else noticed this occurring and is it normal?

In the past, when this occurred, I've reinstalled McAfee after seeing this, but it would just reoccur after a short time.

Specific info:

Security Center Version 9.0
Personal Firewall Version 10.0 (Build 10.0.162)
VirusScan Version 13.0 (Build 13.0.218)

Many thanks

Nice catch. I'll pass this on to the powers that be, and see if other's are experiencing this as well, and if it's something that can be cured.

RE: Personal Firewall and VirusScan Issue

Hello dummkopf,

Would it be possible for you to provide us with a screenshot?

As a possible solution, the following has been suggested:

1.From the Taskbar, click Start
2.Click Run
3.Type command
4.Click OK
5.A window with a black background appears
6.Type net stop winmgmt
7.Press the Enterkey
8.Type CD\
9.Press the Enterkey on your keyboard
10.Type cd %windir%\system32\wbem
11.Press the Enter key
12.Type ren repository repository.old
13.Press the Enterkey
14.Type net start winmgmt
15.Press the Enterkey
16.Restart the computer

* If the OS is Vista make sure while opening the command prompt it is run as Administrator.

RE: Personal Firewall and VirusScan Issue

Hi BastiaanR:

As requested here's a screenshot of :

I will go through the steps you provide and see if it resolved the issue. I should note that it appears that McAfee itself is running fine despite the report on Windows Security Center.

So, I've gone through the steps outlined and the initial results were encouraging (i.e. Windows Security Center lists " McAfee Personal Firewall reports it is currently turned on"), but the problem was observed again soon after.

Is the Windows firewall and windows defender turned off?

If not turn both off and then wait for 2 minutes and see if there is any difference.

Is the Windows firewall and windows defender turned off?

Indeed, both were off during the process.
