Be assured I will post anything worth posting I heard it was just end June and I thought this was not worth posting as I was annoyed it was so long away.

Thank you, Peacekeeper
Peacekeeper, thanks for the update. At least I know the forum remains active. I will wait till the end of June, as we have no other choice. Incidentally, I've continued to terminate the McSvHost.exe in Task Manager prior to shutdown for nearly 30 days and not once have I experienced the dreaded error on shutdown. It adds roughly 15 seconds to the shutdown process. Still, I'd rather shut down without having to worry about anything. Thanks.
Silly question time.
It is a coincidence or was it just luck in that I did not have this error on my laptop until yesterday after
I downloaded Windows update KB973688 - Microsoft XML Core Services 4.00SP2 ?

Hello Friends
I am repeating my suggestions for the benefit of the members here:
I have posted a temporary solution to this problem quite some time back. Please note that this will not harm your computer but simply disables the error message for the Mcafee only. Follow these steps until Mcafee resolves this issue.
If you don't want this error to show up all you have to do is to go to
1. Click Start
2. Select Control Panel
3. Select System
4. Click the Advanced tab
5. In the Performance region select Settings
6. Click the Data Execute tab in the dialog box that opens
7. Select Turn on DEP for all programs and services except for those I select
8. Click Add.
9. The open dialog box will open. Browse and select your application. c:\program files\common files\mcafee\mcsvchost\then mcsvhost.exe
10. Click Open
11. Click Apply
12. Click Ok
13. Reboot
So if anyone has already turnedoff the DEP then the error won't show up.BY TURNING OFF DEP PL REMBER YOU ARE ONLY HIDING THE ERROR,BUT THIS IS NOT SOLUTION TO FIX THE ERROR.
Hi all,
I followed exactly your instructions, but no good news...
I am still experimenting the error every time I switch off my PC.
I put in action a "rough" procedure where, before shutting down, I cancel the process "mcsvhost.exe from the task manager, so that no error is indicated on the screen.
But, if I forget it...the error is regularly shown up!
When is someone going to solve the issue definitevely?
It seems you do not care of consumers so much...
Regards,
Fabio
For some reason the developers are saying they will not release it till end of this month. As the issue only holds up the shutdown for 10 secs why not just let it do its thing rather than end tasking same time wasted.
Pardon me for saying so, but modifying the data execute function seems like a total waste of time.
The mcsvhost error message appears on only some shutdowns, not all, and you don't even have to click on the message. If you just ignore it, it will disappear after a few seconds and the computer will shut down normally.
I see no benefit to turning it off other than being an exercise to prove that you can. It's going to go away eventually anyway.
Gene....I so agree with you & yet so many are taking these ( senseless ? pointless? unnecessary ?) steps. It suggests that the problem at hand is possibly poorly understood (otherwise, why "hide" an error message, when the "error condition" still exists ?). Unfortunately, due to other more recent damaging McAfee incidents that were publicized (but not necessarily experienced by anyone on this particular post) & the fact that this apparently "minor" (relative to "impact") problem has not been resolved in over 3 months, suspect a certain level of paranoid behaviour at work. I can't exclude myself, as I discontinued my Automatic Renewal. "Hiding" an error message however??? I'd rather know when it's there & when it's gone (per the supposed fix to be delivered end-June); the workarounds accomplish little if anything (a few seconds gained???). As stated, believe problem not understood, in my humble opinion. GB.
