Laptop just turn off after update

Hi!

I recently installed McAfee Internet Security 2009.
3 PC pack.

Laptop just "turn off" after McAfee update.
Does not "shut down" Windows for a reboot... just "turn off" the laptop.

This is something new since i installed the product about a week ago.

I suspected McAfee so i configured for NO auto update...
Waited for the update available message and sat down in front of laptop.
Update process goes on, complete correctly and shows a message box.
At this exact time the laptop just turns off with no warning.

I saw it do this two time, same thing.

McAfee update process will get Windows corrupted if i let it go...
So for now i keep it under "let me know and i will decide".

Made a pass thru the "virtual technician" and everything is ok.
Made a pass thru the "chat room" and tech did not found anything.
(Reference call 484570-255097679)

Laptop is a Toshiba Satellite Pro P100 with 2Go memory.
Windows XP (genuine) 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3.
Office 2003 (genuine) with proper service pack.
Other stuff...

High speed internet connection thru cable modem.
Canadian user, french based laptop, Windows & Office.

Was running Norton 360 for the last 2 years... never had a problem.
Product was uninstalled before McAfee installation.

I don't have this problem with the 2 other computer at home.
1 is an old Compaq/Win98, the other one a Fujitsu/WinXP.

My own hint?
When i made the first scan with McAfee there was a question regarding shutting down the computer on completion, and since it was at night i checked the little box... could this parameter still be on? I don't see it anywhere...

And then...
In my mind "shutting down" is thru Windows official process...
Not thru the off switch...

That's about it.
Hope someone out there can help me.

Sorry if my english is not perfectly rounded...

Regards.

RE: Laptop just turn off after update

Hi Serge,

Looks like something is conflicting with McAfee/ Windows, so please clarify/try the following:

• How long you are using McAfee on this computer? If you are using it for the first time did you use any other security programs in your computer before?
• If Yes, was that removed completely, what is the name of that program?
• Click on Start> Click on Run> Type MSConfig> Click on Ok> Click on Startup Tab> Click on Disable all on the right bottom> Click on Services Tab> Make a check mark on Hide all Microsoft Services on the left bottom> Disable all the unwanted services that you find over there and reboot the computer
• Also try to scan the computer for infection by using this Anti-Malware tool http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php. Click on Download, Install it and scan the computer
