RE: Internet security 2009 and product setup problem

I still have the problem that my software does not recognise the linkage to the website link you refer to. I did not purchase online...I purchased on CD....so how did this invoice become active....who did this? ....,as it does not resolve my problem, but instead makes it more complicated as I constantly get reminders that cannot be completed due to the lack of response from the "product update " process.

Thanks again?...I am now off to try to forget the frustration of mcafee software and get some sleep , and dreaming that come tomorrow morning someone will give me a solution that enables me to properly protect my 4 pcs's (only 2 of which I have tried updating so far) with some service that doesn't require endless tech support.

Despite how it may sound I am grateful for your responses, and that of others on this site....but getting frustrated.

If the ip address shown is 212.140.233.209, we shall try with a different one.

Click on start-> Click on Run-> Type drivers-> Click ok-> Open the folder etc ->open the file hosts with a note pad. initially the contant inside that will be like

# Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

127.0.0.1 localhost

Change it to

# Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.

#

221.135.111.121 download.mcafee.com

then save the file.

try pinging now if you are getting the reply from ip 221.135.111.121, then go ahead register your prodcut.

You shouldn't have asked for "the name of the customer services director for Mcafee EMEA". If you haven't done that they would have escalated your case to Tier 2 technician which may resolve your issue.

RE: Internet security 2009 and product setup problem

I am sure that you must get the updates till it registers and when it does the subscription must start from that date.....:)

More over its better you let it run like this for a few days and then check it.... meanwhile I will check out and see if there are any server related issues...(it will take 2-3 days for me to ensure that there are issues).....

I mean you can't phone up some one and ask "is the server off?"

jokes apart...

There might be many reasons for the server link to be poor ( again there are very few/no other issues like yours so something big as a server is not switched off it must be some thing down the line or on the box) i will investigate if possible...

meanwhile you are protected and the updates will be going through too.....

again... do try Luke's suggestion and then see if it helps....

happy

RE: Internet security 2009 and product setup problem

Not sure why you think that complaining will stop the resolution of my case Luke....as proper businesses don't operate that way. But if you're telling me that mcafee stop resolution investigation because of a complaint then that would be very interesting to quote.

I will try out your above suggestion now. Thanks again for your continued efforts.

RE: Internet security 2009 and product setup problem

Luke, I did exactly as you said and alas the same problem occurs. The product setup screen just hangs. I did get a response from the IP address you mentioned after I made the change, so that part worked ok...just NOT the product registration.

Actually you misunderstood my statement. If you are making a complaint that is well and good, but at the same time working with a level 2( Tier 2) tech will give you more confidence and will be able to resolve your issue.
