Internet access blocked except Google

McAfee Internet Suite has taken a dislike to a particular subnet of our corporate LAN. The user cannot click on any search results from Google although he can do searches. We have told the product to trust this network. The notebook works fine on other subnets. When we remove the product all Internet activity returns to normal.

RE: Internet access blocked except Google

What version of Internet Suite? This is the home product forum and you appear to be talking about a corporate installation.

Please include the following information:

What is your operating system, service pack and are you up to date with Microsoft update? There are two ways of checking this. Go to Start/Run and type in winver then click the Enter key. Or, right-click My Computer in the Start Menu or on your desktop (or Computer in Vista) and select Properties.
Post what it says.

What McAfee products do you have? If your taskbar icon is like this: - right-click it and go to each application "About" and post the details.
If it is like this: - double-click to open SecurityCenter and then click "View Details" or "About" at the lower right of the new window. Post the details from each module.

Version info

Running Windows XP SP3. Security Center 9.3/VirusScan 13.3/Personal Firewall 10.3. Windows Firewall is turned off.

To elaborate further, the user cannot access www.msn.com or yahoo.com at all. He can reach Google and run a search but cannot follow a link from the results. The unit has been scanned for bugs with McAfee, WebRoot, and Malwarebytes.

To be fair, this may not be McAfee that is causing the problem but it seems like a firewall or parental control issue.

Thanks.

RE: Version info

Thoughts from a colleague...

Does that enterprise network have any kind on filtering or things like that - a policy manager or something.. that might be denying the particular IP or unregistered mac address from access the resources on the network ????

RE: Version info

No, no filtration.

We can cancel this thread as I removed the McAfee product yesterday and the device still exhibited the same symptoms. The problem is something else.

Thank you much for your assistance Peter.

Cheers,
Terry

OK, I'll close the thread then. Good luck with the investigation.
