I've installed Windows 7 on my laptop and then installed Internet Security (IS) 2010. Installation was successful, however my computer started to work/operate slowly to the point that my computer hangs and freezes.
My laptop worked well again after I've uninstalled IS 2010. What seems to be the problem? Is this a RAM issue or IS 2010 is not compatible with Windows 7?
Please help.
Krismatt,
Please let me know the RAM size of the computer, version of Internet Explorer . It may happen if there is lot of applications installed on your computer I would also recommend you to remove unwanted start up programs from the computer. Please check following knowledge base to check for incompatible application list and remove them.

Moved to SecurityCenter 10 - 2010 as a more appropriate spot. The software is fully compatible with Windows 7, both x86 and x64 versions (now your Windows 7 should be SP1, help with that HERE).

Windows Vista (32-bit and 64-bit)
Windows 7 (32-bit and 64-bit)
System Requirements
1 GHz processor or higher
800 × 600 or higher resolution
256 MB RAM or higher for Windows XP (512 MB recommended)
512 MB RAM for Vista/Windows 7 (2GB recommended)
200 MB of available free drive space
Internet connection
Supported Browsers
Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or later
Optional: Mozilla Firefox 2 or later
Supported Email Programs
POP3 – Microsoft Outlook Express, Microsoft Outlook, Eudora, Netscape, IncrediMail and Thunderbird
MAPI – Outlook
Windows Live Mail
Web – MSN/Hotmail, or email account with POP3 access
Required for Anti-Spam Toolbar Plug-In
Outlook Express 6.0 or later
Windows Mail
Outlook 2000 or later
Eudora 6.0 or later
Thunderbird 1.5 or later
Anti-Spam also supports any other POP3 email client (without SSL) and web accounts (MSN/Hotmail paid accounts and accounts with POP3 access)
Reasons for slowness could be not meeting the above requirements or other security software interfering with McAfee, do you have any installed or did you?

Thanks for providing the link. My RAM is currently standing at 1.5GB. I think I know the reason why IS 2010 isn't running smoothly. It could be the other anti-virus programs installed as well.
I'll uninstall the other AV programs and see what happens. Thanks!
Hi Ex_brit,
Yeah there's another AV program installed. I didn't mind uninstalling it since the McAfee installer did not prompt me to do so. I thought it was OK to just let it work simultaneously.
Thanks for enlightening me.
What was it just out of interest? Running more than 1 A/V can actually cause you to catch something as they could feasibly cancel each other out, but you can run anti-malware/spyware applications - I listed some here: https://community.mcafee.com/docs/DOC-2168

That's good, all the best. 😉
Krismatt,
Happy to hear that it has fixed the issue.
