I cant open Security Cente

Help. I cant open the secruity centre. every time I try I get a "send error report" box with the following message

McAfee Services has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Even when I go to control panel to remove the program / reinstall I get the same error message. Im stuck.

RE: I cant open Security Cente

What is your operating system and service pack?

If XP or Vista enable Windows Firewall temporarily and do the following.

Download MCPR removal tool, linked in my signature and save it to your desktop.

Try running it. If it wont run in normal mode you should boot into Safe Mode by tapping F8 while booting up and try running it there.

If all goes well all McAfee products will be removed. Reboot and re-download them all from your online McAfee account, not from any CD that you may have.

RE: I cant open Security Cente

As an afterthought you may want to check for spyware while we are at it.

The free version of this tool will do as good a job as any: http://www.superantispyware.com/superantispywarefreevspro.html

To check whether or not you have a service pack right-click "My Computer" and select "Properties" and it should say so there on the General tab.

Or...go to Start/Run and type in winver then click the Enter key. It will spell out exactly the version of XP you have.

I would imagine you would know whether or not you installed any service packs, surely? They are huge. If you don't have any, then your system is unsupported by both McAfee and Microsoft and you should be installing SP3 which includes all updates since XP started until about April of this year.

Help with that is available here: http://community.mcafee.com/showthread.php?t=220807

Good. If that doesn't cure the problem then I would try the cleanup and reinstall.

RE: I cant open Security Cente

Click on the MCPR Removal Tool link in this FAQ: http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?id=107083&lc=1033&partner=10005&type=TS

"Save As" to your desktop.

Run it. It will remove all vestiges of McAfee. I suggest saving it to your dekstop only because of the difficulties you are having, because you can then run it in Safe Mode if necessary.

Reboot and reinstall your products from the UK website: http://uk.mcafee.com/root/downloads.asp
