You have an excellent point as I had completely forgotten about certain exceptions to the rule.
There's a thread here that may help you: http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/116371-slipstream-of-sp3-into-mce05/

Process **\MCSHIELD.EXE pid (3648) contains a certified but untrustworthy content. The execution of a preferred Operation with a McAfee-Driver, however, was permitted.

Thnka Peter. I do have SP3 on my computer and all is updated (just got more updates from Windows last night). It's just a matter of streamlining SP3 onto my SP2 disk. The dougknox site says that it will not work for Windows Media Center edition. I didn't notice that on the lifehacker link. Do you know if I will be able to streamline SP3 onto my MCE SP2 disk, supplied by Dell using the lifehacker link?
Here's another link - a long thread but maybe worth a read: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/forums/en-US/itproxpsp/thread/8546f297-9781-422b-b53e-4f283e6b13...
JuanMercado, hopefully someone more knowledgeable than I will answer your question.

I hope help.
I've read through the links you sent and now I have more questions. I should have been more clear. I have Windows XP MCE Version 2002 with SP3. The link, if I understand it correctly, says that if you streamline SP3 onto MCE 2005 that it reverts the disk to MCE version 2.8. It also talks of having 2 disks for MCE. I only have one disk, an OEM that came when we bought the computer. Would it mattter in my situation if I streamlined since I'm already at a 2002 version (can't tell if it's 2.8)? Also, from what I've read, if I streamline I may wind up with XP Pro instead of MCE. I don't care about the Media Center components because I don't use them anyway. I just hope to avoid going back to square one from the factory and starting all over again. What I'm really hoping for is that my system restore took care of things. I can live with it if the errors only occur when running Malwarebytes and SAS scans, as long as the scans can do their jobs. In that case I can just reboot the computer when the scans have completed. For now, I'm just sitting tight and waiting to see what happens. However, I want to be prepared to fix files if needed. Thanks, Peter, for all your help and patience with me.
Not too sure that you can slipstream OEM versions anyway.. Perhaps you should be asking on a specialist Windows XP forum.
According to poster 'ZERO Tolerance' in THIS thread it is possible and he even posts a tutorial but mentions 2 disks and if I go onto Technet I see that the original XP MCE 2002 is on 2 disks & the only SP3 is 2005 and other XP versions.
I also read somewhere that SP2 or 3 turns MCE 2002 into MCE 2005 but as I am not any authority on that particular theory I can't verify that.
The official silence on this old thread, affecting lots of paying XP SP3 folks, is deafening.

Mate, it's abundantly clear that McAfee are not going to resolve this problem for us. This is all a waste of time. There are several possible reasons behind why McAfee has ignored this; it could be that due to the damage that's been caused to peoples' systems - they don't want to accept culpability, it could be that they perceive the number of affected users as being small enough to ignore, it could be that they [wrongly] think we are all using non-genuine Windows software, or it could be down to plain unprofessionalism in the area of customer support. Whatever the reason is, we are not going to receive any solution from McAfee whatsoever for the various problems they've caused. There's no reason why any of us should ever use McAfee software ever again.
Sorry I disagree they always get a fix sometimes they are slow but it will come. The file property issue has now got a fix and will be rolled out soon this issue here is still under investigation.
We mods are here to stir Mcafee as much to help you.
BTW that comment above could have legal ramifications please remove it. Bugs in the program are not intended just bugs.
