RE: unable to fix problem, unable to connect

I have not Spyware Doctor. I have installed no security or maintenance sw in the last weeks.

The version of IE installed on my system is IE6.0.2800.1106, which I believe is the most recent on win2k. Anyway, my default browser has been Firefox for over a year.

Did this machine ever have any other anti-virus software on it earlier?

RE: unable to fix problem, unable to connect

I think I never had in ten years any other av sw then McAfee.
I used to be quite happy with it...

RE: unable to fix problem, unable to connect

Paolo,

The thinking here is that there is a problem with the network settings on that machine or there is an infection preventing access to security sites such as McAfee.

?

I'm not sure if this question was asked already, but paolo, by any chance you're using a wireless connection? if yes, what's the brand name of the router?

RE: unable to fix problem, unable to connect

I open to suggestion. Of course I checked my network settings more than once and found nothing...
As for virus infection, I scan my system on a regular basis. In the first steps of this discussion I was adviced to install and run SUPERAntySpyware and Malwarebytes, as I did. The sw found only minor infections. I made also a scan with Clam.
