Re: slow network transfer speed over homenetwork on win7 64bit

PeaceKeeper,

Yes - I tried working with the settings earlier.  Best I could get was up to a rousing 150K/sec.  Uninstalled altogether before I could get any performace at all.

Or by work-around do you mean that I should buy a new NIC?

So there is a fix?  But they aren't realeasing it yet?  STILL?  This issue is going on a month in this thread alone.  I'm sure it's occurred well before that.

Unacceptable.  Too bad McAfee isn't as interested as providing a product as they are about making sure my credit card is charged for non-functional software.  Adios.

Thanks for the updates.  I appreciate you sharing what you know.

Fix not ready but they know cause and therefore how to fix it. I assume not a 10 minute job. They only found cause about when the users here did.

Re: slow network transfer speed over homenetwork on win7 64bit

In a parallel thread Bobcat mentioned this "I had to disable 'checksum offloading' in the Realtek network driver configuration, so people might want to try that.  With 'checksum offloading' enabled, I only got 0.5 Mbps.". I just tried that and it works for me... speed went up from 0.2Mb/s to at least 20Mb/s (still low for a Gb network but way better than before!).

(Of course I'll wait for a McAfee patch too!)

Re: slow network transfer speed over homenetwork on win7 64bit

Yes - I had the same problem during the last couple of days.  I was running a Squeezebox music server on my new HP e9220y Pavillion (has realtek NIC) and found that the "network" was choking the music streaming. After troubleshooting for a couple of hours, I discovered that:

- it wasn't my network

- was directly tied to my HP

- it was any hardware

I tried disabling the McAfee firewall and it was the same slow file transfer rate of about 500 kbit/s/  So I de-installed the McAfee firewall (you have to re-insert the CD and redo the install) and my file transfers and streaming work great again.

So, McAfee, go stuff your garbage software where the sun don't shine.  I will never buy a McAfee firewall again, and I am debating to ever again purchase AV from these clowns.  Just today, the big press story broke that McAfee was blocking svchost.exe and was therefore tanking millions of computers on boot up.  REALLY?  MaAfee, Really?  you have to be kidding right?

Someone explain to me why turning off the firewall doesn't fix the problem?   WTF.

GARBAGE SECURITY SOFTWARE.

Re: slow network transfer speed over homenetwork on win7 64bit

PS - Windows Firewall works great; it's been thorougly tested; it won't block legit windows app and file sharing, and it FREE.

Stuff it McAfee - you guys have gone way downhill..

Re: slow network transfer speed over homenetwork on win7 64bit

The issue can be fixed by the nic properties adjustment though been told the fix will be out to 50% countries today and others soon after.

Re: slow network transfer speed over homenetwork on win7 64bit

Its now Tuesday evening here, and I've just downloaded a larger than normal update for McAfee Internet Security, which required a system reboot. The version and build figures didn't change after the reboot, but something must have changed because it appears to have fixed the problem for me. I'm now able to transfer files to my NAS device at normal speed again.

Thanks to you, Peacekeeper, for your help and for keeping us updated on the progress of this fix. I'm happy to report the issue is solved for me.

Re: slow network transfer speed over homenetwork on win7 64bit

As indicated before, I did the "network card fix" which made a considerable difference. I still believe things are too slow however. Today, I also got the "reboot" McAfee update... don't think this was the one that fixes this as I measured before and after and nothing changed.

Note, my target test drive Q: is on a QNAP NAS that is connected to my PC with cat6 cables via a Gb-switch (and yes, my PC and the NAS are @ Gb speed as well)...

Re: slow network transfer speed over homenetwork on win7 64bit

Did you return network card to original settings?  Had you done those tests before the issue came?

No, didn't return the card to its original settings (yet) and no I didn't try before as I already had McAfee installed when I got my NAS
