not able to view firewall log

Hello,

I have no idea what version of Internet security I am using as there no information provided by the application.

However, I am not able to use the instructions provided when I click on the "Learn more" link from the "Firewall History" section. The "learn more" link takes me to http://download.mcafee.com/products/webhelp/4/1033/?appid=MPF&applist=MSC,VSO,MPF,msk,mnm,MQS,nmc&to....

The instructions are:

1. From the Home  Page, click Settings.

2. Under McAfee Resources, click History and Logs.

3. Click one of these event types to view its  details:

Incoming Events — Displays the date and  time, source IP address, host name, information type, and event type.
Outgoing Events — Displays the name of  the program attempting outgoing access, the date and time of the event,  and the location of the program on your PC.
Attack  Detection Events — Displays the date and time, the source  IP address, the host name of the event, and the event type.

How do I view the firewall log file? I have attached what my "home" page is.

This is the first time that I have tried to do anything significant with the interface since buying the "new" version. This interface is lousy compared to what I had with the version that I got from Comcast.

Re: not able to view firewall log

You have the 2010 product.  To view logs click Navigation at top right of SecurityCenter and then click History and Logs in ths list below.

Expand each "drawer" to view the contents.

To view versions of your McAfee software click About (at left) after clicking Navigation.

This simplified user interface was as a result of customer complaints that the old one was too complicated to use for many people.

Re: not able to view firewall log

Are there any plans to fix this?  It seems like if you are using the 2010 product and you click on Help it should take you to the help for the 2010 product, not a different product.

Re: not able to view firewall log

They aren't going to fix anything in the 2010 product considering the 2012 beta is just around the corner.   Are you sure that's the version you have?

Open SecurityCenter by double-clicking or right-clicking the taskbar icon

Click About and post the verswions.

If you actually have the 2010 product then click Navigation and then About.

The help section on my 2011 version works exactly as it should and if I recall did so on the 2010 product too.

What exactly are you trying to find?

Re: not able to view firewall log

I followed the same steps the first guy did, as shown below.  My issue is that the help documentation does not line up with the application.  The Learn More page shows one thing and the actual product is different.  Has this at least been fixed in the newer version?

However, I am not able to use the instructions provided when I click on the "Learn more" link from the "Firewall History" section. The "learn more" link takes me tohttp://download.mcafee.com/products/webhelp/4/1033/?appid=MPF&applist=MSC,VSO,MP F,msk,mnm,MQS,nmc&t....

The instructions are:

1. From the #Home  Page, click Settings.

2. Under #McAfee Resources, click History and Logs.

3. Click one of these event types to view its  details:

#

#Incoming Events — Displays the date and  time, source IP address, host name, information type, and event type.
#Outgoing Events — Displays the name of  the program attempting outgoing access, the date and time of the event,  and the location of the program on your PC.
##Attack  Detection Events — Displays the date and time, the source  IP address, the host name of the event, and the event type.

How do I view the firewall log file? I have attached what my "home" page is.

Re: not able to view firewall log

Click Navigation

Click History and Logs

Anything there?

The 'Learn More' link takes you to the Help page.

You can always get 24/7 online chat support too from Technical Support linked under Useful Links at the top of this page.

Sorry I don't have a 2010 installation to work with and neither should you by now unless you get McAfee from a 3rd party supplier who is slow on the uptake of new versions.

I see nothing attached so still don't know what version you have....all I need is the version number of SecurityCenter.

Re: not able to view firewall log

Well, I did figure it out based on this thread.  That wasn't the issue.  The issue is more that the help was for the wrong product in the first place.  I guess I'm wondering if we should continue to invest in Mcafee products or if there are other products by companies that pay closer attention to details like this.

Basically, the thread helped me, but it is frustrating that I had to come here at all when a help screen for the proper product would have presumably given me the correct instructions rather than clicking through trying to find something that isn't there.

Re: not able to view firewall log

I guess the help section for the 2011 products is what is now displayed.  As I still don't know what version you have I can't tell if it's correct or wrong in your case.  The 2010 product is within months of expiry now so I doubt anything will change with it.

Sorry for the headache.
