Hi there,
After browsing the forum I found some threads concerning this issue, but was not sure which is the actual solution to the problem... Maybe Ex_Brit can tell me the solution, cause he answered the most in concerning threads to the problem....
Problem: Windows Live Messenger won't accept .exe or RAR/ZIP files to be received if I haven't filled in the path to an external virusscan engine. This must be done under options/file transfer.
Images as shown in this recent thread:
http://community.mcafee.com/showthread.php?t=231946-Leaving the path blank won't work, than messenger doesn't accept the file.
-Uncheck the box (additionally leave the path blank) won't work either, than messenger doesn't accept the file also.
-Installing the windows scanner is no option either, cause conflicts will occur and I haven't installed McAfee for sh*
😄I already tried giving in some .exe files in the McAfee folder, but none of em are any good.
C:\Program Files\McAfee\MSC\mcshell.exe --> the centre opens and stays open. Should be closed manually and than the file is received. *NO good*
C:\Program Files\McAfee\VirusScan\Mcshield.exe --> Some DOS screen opens and stays open. Should be closed manually and than file is received. *No good*
C:\Program Files\McAfee\VirusScan\mcvsshld.exe --> Nothing happens and the file won't receive. *No good*
C:\Program Files\McAfee\VirusScan\mcods.exe --> Messenger receives file and shuts up. McAfee screens stay closed. But the final receive message in WLM (after scan) is slow as crap. seems to be no good?I have 2 questions:1. If i understand it correct, it shouldn't even be filled in for McAfee to work properly as it scans received files over the messenger anyway (behind the screens)?
2. What do I fill in to let messenger swallow the file without naging about any scanner and let McAfee not open any screens to be manually closed and just do it's job....?
Thanks in advance for the solution!
