It is time to bump this issue up to the top of the list again! I contacted tech support chat about how the McAfee folder reappeared in the start menu base directory after every time I moved to another folder and rebooted. They told me they would report the issue to engineering. It seems this is not a new issue at all (see: https://community.mcafee.com/thread/21606?start=90&tstart=0) and nothing new has been reported on these forums for some time.
Please fix this soon. There is no reason that users of this software should not be able to customize their Window's start menu however they want. This sort of issue is why I got rid of Norton and switched to McAfee.
Thanks!
We passed on the complaints and it has been noted by McAfee but I think has a very low priority as the Start Menu is a Windows function to display installed software after all.
As an afterthought, the best way to bring about any changes and improvements is to beta test the software, and use the bug reporting feature. That way you deal directly with the developers and can get things like this seen to when it's easier for them to make changes.
The 2011 Windows beta is to be released in a few weeks and has a permanent license.

To finish my semi-rant, I went the traditional root via chat with McAfee support and got the traditional scripted answer after wasting approximately 30 minutes and will quote as closely as I can - "you cannot delete the start menu folder or the program will not run correctly". Well, you can delete the start menu folder and it would appear that the program continues to run OK (I sincerely hope that I did not purchase a security product that can be interfered with/defeated by simply deleting a start menu folder!), it's just that the McAfee kernel continually re-installs the start menu item on each boot. This should be addressed within two weeks, maximum. My 'mouse that roared' ultimatum to McAfee is that if it is not repaired within that time period I will never purchase another McAfee product and take every opportunity to discourage others from doing so.
and the re-installation is a Windows resposibility as well, I suppose- your bias is showing
I can only repeat what I've already stated, so I wont. Suffice it to say, it's on the list of things needing attention.
I had same issue and worked with McAfee support to finally fix it so the McAfee folder would go away for good on Start menu. It took a while to communicate what I was asking for. Support guy kept insisting that I contact Microsoft support as Windows controls what goes on the Start menu.
The folder keeps reappearing becuase it is a file protected by McAfee Access Protection to prevent a virus from deleting it. Who knows why someone would want to delete a Start menu shortcut or why McAfee thought it needed protection.
The solution was to turn off Access Protection in General Settings and Alerts. Pick your poison: protect all or protect none.
I have the beta 2011 product (actual, not what's in the shops and online labelled 2011 - actually 2010) and haven't noticed this issue.
