Why does McAfee delete legitimate files from programs when they are installed

I unlock phones and McAfee have done what I have never seen on my Kaspersky Security Suite. They have managed to make a program which deletes files from my unlocking program as I installed it onto my new netbook. It stated it was a virus and that I could restore the files. Well I could not because it did not put them into quaranteen as it stated. I have done this several times and no matter what I do it will not work.

So given I have a trial version of McAfee they can count on me to recommend to anyone not to use their software but to use Kaspersky. Besides Kaspersky gets better ratings and only costs £24 for 3 computers. McAfee want £40+ at the discount price for their software.

That can happen with any brand of protection software.  Hence the file submission facility so that the database can be updated to cover such things.

I know any antivirus program can stop a virus. This is not a virus. This is a program I have used for 5 years now which is not a virus. I run it on my other 2 computers both of which have Kaspersky. I have also run it with Norton and Panda in the past.

So why do I have a problem with McAfee. and why when I have selected to install a program it is being overun by McAfee. Surely when I select to install something it should have given me an option to install or not. But no this antivirus dictates to the customer unless you want to go through the hastle of having to set up every program. This is not user freindly in any shape or form. McAfee must expect to lose customers over this one.

I am not a stupid person and build computers. I am also a microsoft partner. I also write some VBA. But this is the worse experience I have had with any so called security program.

As I said, false positives can happen with any anti-virus, it's just unfortunate that this happened with McAfee.  Kaspersky, Panda, Norton, etc. all have the similar methods for submission of incorrectly identified files.

I know it's a chore, but it's a case of better be safe than sorry.  Obviously something in how that software works triggers alarms in the current McAfee version.

We have asked McAfee to reintroduce the ability to ignore files and folders, but they have chosen not to adopt the idea in the consumer product at least.

It's your choice of course.  Go with some other brand if you would rather, but eventually I promise you that it will happen with that one too, maybe for some other software, who knows?
