I've just received two emails from unknown people that contain exactly the subject (part of my address), same text (just my name and address) and a .PNG attachment.
According to many sites, .PNG are harmless, but in other sites they link them with trojans. I ran it through the McAfee scan and it found no issue.
However, I don't believe that two emails from unknowns in a clearly automated format are harmless. I'd like to refer them to somewhere for further verification (and probably improvement of the scanner). Is there somewhere at McAfee that I can send them?
If that doesn't exist, does anyone know of a way to safely open them with no chance of something ferreting around for data or causing other mayhem.
Cheers,
b.
You can send it up to McAfee for further analysis and/or upload it to VirusTotal where is will analysed by all the major antivirus engines.
Send a file to Avert Labs for analysis:

Don't you wish the 'formal' sites were as quick and thorough? Many thanks for that.
