Updating Cycles?

I just switched my computer on & I noticed the updater icon in the systems tray/task bar for a few moments. I have seen this before. Is this behaviour normal?

Does McAfee update every day?

RE: Updating Cycles?

It updates every day usually, sometimes misses a beat and then catches up, but it averages once a day for VirusScan.

RE: Updating Cycles?

OK thanks. I thought I was imagining things for a while. I take it that it doesn't have annoying interrupting updates like Symantec's infamous 'live updater' then?

I think it is a good idea to have daily short unobtrusive updates. Norton used to drive me crazy when it took over my computer to update!

The more I see of McAfee, the more I like it. happy

RE: Updating Cycles?

I'm not familiar with Norton's updating mechanisms I'm afraid.

You can control how it updates by doing the following...

Double-click the taskbar icon to open Security Center
Click Advanced Menu (bottom left)
Click Configure (left)
With Security Center highlighted at top left
Click Advanced (right)
Click Update Options at left.

RE: Updating Cycles?

OK thanks. What I meant to ask was, is the daily update the only update?

RE: Updating Cycles?

Usually it's just the DAT update daily for VirusScan, but occasionally other applications may update too, usually it all comes in at once so shouldn't be too obtrusive.
SiteAdvisor for instance, if you use it in your browser, updates silently.
