Wish you had followed my suggestion and sent a copy of each file to Mcafee as I mentioned in the original post. that would help others not miss the files if they were actual trojans.
Of course 1st retiurn would be an auto reply saying I assume no virus you then reply saying relook and why.
Hello everyone, short summary: Just joined here because I have experienced this problem lately.
I've had McAfee Security Center for 2 years without problems. I can't recall when, but I recently started getting "Not Protected" messages. This "stalls" every program running on the computer. Firefox, Messenger etc. etc. until I apply the "Fix" solution.
I then updated to Total Protection a couple of days ago because the other subscription ran out. I uninstalled Security Center and installed Total Protection from the direct download option.
I still have the "Not Protected" issue, it still stalls almost every program used on the computer. "Greying" it out and usually I get "Microsoft can't determin bla bla bla, wait for program to respont or close" options.
This is the information I get:
With rumor of Trojan-horse and other infections running amok, I also ran the usual suite:
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
SUPERAntiSpyware
Spybot Search & Destroy
Ad-Aware
followed by a full McAfee Scan. A brace of "tracking" cookies, an old copy of VegasCasino21 (I run it in "Sandboxie"), and one mention of the Weather Channel toolbar. Knowing that Al Roker and Co. are not into malevolent software, I deem my PC's clean (with apologies to Zelda Rubenstein).
Earlier posters may indeed have had Trojans or other bugs, however I do think that this recurring "Not Protected" problem's roots lie elsewhere.
Think is, CAN we get a trojan or virus BECAUSE of the "Not protected" issue?
It would be nice to get a better idea what other processes are running instead of just a summary of what McAfee has that is not.
I would think so.
McAfee realtime fails first and does it without warning. The handy little warning you get comes up when the rest of the services start failing. Nobody has bothered to clock it to see how long it takes but there is a passage of time, they are not coincident to each other.
Did you use the preinstall tool posted earlier in the thread first?
Same problem, happens every time I use the computer, perhaps every time a new program is launched? When you uninstalled Norton did you use their supplied removal tool? When you removed Mcafee before downloading from the site did you use the mcpr tool as I said in the 1st post.
geoperkins,
Have you looked to see what processes are running prior to McAfee tanking?
