Hi,
I’m using McAfee AntiVirus Plus 2010 with Windows 7 Professional 64bit.
The last update caused a BSOD (STOP 3b mfehidk01.sys) after reboot.
The next reboot was okay, but my McAfee AntiVirus Plus 2010 frontend was broken.
Thus, I’ve reinstalled it:
1. 1. Remove with MCPRtool.
2. 2. Reboot.
3. 3. http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/McPreInstall.exe.
4. 4. Add new admin user .
5. 5. Login as new admin user.
6. 6. Online install.
AntiVirus works fine, but I have found an unknown plugin/dll in Firefox and Seamonkey:
McAfee SecurityCenter
File: c:\progra~2\mcafee\msc\npMcSnFFPl.dll
Version: 11.0.488.0
McAfeeMSC FF plugin DLL
MIME-Type: application/x-mfe-ipt
Does anybody know this dll?
Additionally I’ve found new DNS queries for tunnel.cfw.trustedsource.org.
on 21.06.11 07:53:38 CDTI can't answer for the dll; I've checked, and it's not on my system - but I've got McAfee Internet Security. You could always navigate to the containing folder and right-click on the file to see its properties : it appears to be a legit McAfee file but it does no harm to check.
As for tunnel.cfw.trustedsource.org : TrustedSource is used by SiteAdvisor. It's McAfee.
Thanks Hayton. It's curious. I don't have installed SiteAdvisor!
No, but you have McAfee. This is The Cloud in action - it's a feedback system. Information is passed back from running McAfee programs to TrustedSource, which then updates SiteAdvisor. If you have SiteAdvisor installed, that updated information is then passed back to you when you visit a site. I know that's how it works for spam detection; for malware it's probably something similar.
