System Restore causing problem with McAfee

Jump to solution

I have McAfee SecurityCenter Ver 10.5.227 running uner 64-bit Win 7 Professional.

On a couple of occasions in the past few months, afer doing a System Restore to the previous day, I have found that soon after the restore Mcafee gives a warning message that Real Time Scanning has been switched off. Clicking the switch on button briefly restarts Realtime Scanning but immediately, or within a few seconds, it switches off again. On both occasions I found, as a final desperate act, that doing a manual McAfee update cures the problem and switches Real Time Scanning permantly back on.

Is this a known problem? Purely a guess, but could there have been some type of automatic update after the Restore Point being used?

System Restore effects anything that is time-sensitive such as Windows itself, McAfee etc. and updates should always be run immediately afterwards.

See these FAQ's on the subject:

What is System Restore and how might it affect my security Suite? (TS101062)

and

How to prepare McAfee security software for an operating system upgrade or system restore (TS100328)

also if you have used System Restore to go back to before an infection invaded, always temporarily disable System Restore afterwards to destroy the infected Restore point.
