Security center seems under virus attack

Several malfunctions cause me to suspect a coordinated attack. It all started after a popup, apparently from McAfee, said Security Center has been updated, please reboot. After reboot:

Popup says security center failed to locate application data - please reinstall security center. Pop up occurs every 20 seconds, with annoying sound.

Cannot uninstall security center. Uninstaller starts, then immediately quits.

Cannot install McAfee virtual technician. Installer says unknown error.


Also, cannot locate McAfee Removal tool on website. Message says page no longer there.

Anyone else have this?

Install malware bytes and scan your computer through it..you can also scan in safe mode, this little software is freely available.

The program Silverhawk is suggesting is found here

 

Check for spyware using the free version of these two tools and update them before running. Let them clean everything they find and reboot if asked.

McAfee/Microsoft under attack

Virus still has the upper hand, whatever it is.

Removed crippled Security Center with MCPR.exe ---- thanks Peacekeeper
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware reported 5 infected Registry Keys, removed
Super Antispyware reported only a bunch of tracking cookies
Also installed Microsoft hotfix for Conficker, KB958644

Situation now:
Cannot get to Windows Update -- blank page and it says Done
Cannot get to McAfee free virus scan -- blank page and it says Done
Cannot re-install McAfee suite -- DMSetup-Serial.exe says "... Javascript is not working correctly on this PC"

Am I the only one reporting this?

Try running Malwarebytes again, this time in "Safe Mode With Networking" reached by tapping F8 while booting up.

To facilitate that make a shortcut to the programme on your desktop. Update it before running in that mode.

If the problem persists I think it best either to format and reinstall Windows, or at least download Hijackthis and post its log on one of the following forums for expert advice.

When things are back to normal make sure that Windows is completely up to date with both critical and non-critical updates and ensure that any browser add-ons are the latest version (Flash, Java etc, & uninstall any older versions).

Also check your hosts file hasnn't been altered to include sites like mcafee's etc.

It is in windows/system32/drivers/etc
