Security Update Settings: Notification Not Working

I have Update Settings set to "Notify me when updates are available", yet I receive updates automatically with NO notification.

Using Mcafee Security Center build 12.1.253; Windows Vista; IE9.

I used the add/remove programs to remove McAfee Security Center; ran MCPR; reinstalled McAfee.  MVT found no problems.

Still NO notification when updates are available!

Anyone else having this problem?  Is there a solution to this problem?

Re: Security Update Settings: Notification Not Working

Vista SP2 I assume?  The only thing that I can think of here would be is IE9 set to its defaults?  The McAfee interface uses IE for its operation.  Try opening IE and going to Tools/Internet Options/Advanced and click Reset, then Apply and OK any prompts.

Close and reopen it then go to Tools/Manage Add-ons and re-enable any you need.

Then wait for the next update and see if notifcation works.

If not all I can suggest is contact Technical Support.  It's a free phone call or you can use their online chat, also free and available through Useful Links at the top of this page.

Re: Security Update Settings: Notification Not Working

Out of curiosity I set mine to notify and it worked first time.   So something is preventing it from happening on your machine.   Tech Support should know how to troubleshoot that.

Re: Security Update Settings: Notification Not Working

I have Vista SP2 and executed all your suggested re-install steps.  Problem still remains that I am not being Notified when Updates are available as well as several other problems since the last McAfee software release.

Re: Security Update Settings: Notification Not Working

csc32,

Did you revert the changes to Notify me when updates are available after reinstallation ?

The last update shows 3/9/2013, which means the McAfee is not updating if in case you made the post on Mar 3/11/2013. I would like to know how you are sure that the McAfee is auto updating. Is there any update icon you have noticed on the McAfee console or what makes you say the McAfee is auto updating.

It seems like McAfee is not doing the auto update when you set the update settings to Notify me when updates are available.

Also perform the below steps and let me know you see the verification complete dialog box. (this is to find out why  there is no update Notification )

Right Click on M icon  (McAfee icon in the system try)

Click Verify Subscription (Allow the prompt if you get it )

Check you gets the verification complete dialog box with the OK button

Re: Security Update Settings: Notification Not Working

Karthik,

>>>  Did you revert the changes to Notify me when updates are available after reinstallation ?
Ans: YES

This morning, 3/12/13, the Last Anti-Virus Update still shows 3/9/2013.

I Verified the Subscription and received the OK dialog box.

If I try a Manual Update there is know  'spinning' icon on the McAfee Shield in the Task Bar and the Update never completes.

Today, I changed the Update Settings to Download and Install Updates Automatically to see if I receive any Updates.

Will let you know what the results are later.
