They are looking into why some users do not get the shortcut registry key. At least yours is now working.  We are discussing this on the phone now.

The offending icon's been absent for 24 hours since I restored the missing (why?) registry key so I presume the issue's fixed as far as I'm concerned.  Thanks to those who assisted but this episode has shaken my faith in Mcafee.

The issue was given high priority over other issues due to the calls and posts here. Really 3 weeks to get a full Qa'd fix was not bad and over xmas. OK a few registry keys missing for some but all should now or nearly now have the fix.

They still cannot repro how the key gets dropped but it is easy to fix so best to accept things happen sometimes.

Well.... let's be open and say that half the problem has been fixed. I (and assume others) still have the Start Menu "McAfee" folder reappearing each update even though it had been moved to a sub-folder.

Unless this is a manual registry fix too...?

We mods have confirmed to the techs that issue still happening. They are looking into it and why the thing was not fixed with the icon.

I will update here when I hear anything.
