RE: Me too -- Protection turns off

It's a known issue and is usually fixed by clicking "Fix" and/or by rebooting.

McAfee are working on it.

protection

yes me too same issue and I too had found the security disable on my puter using malwarebytes. It removed them but am at this moment scanning again because my security system now has lost the site advisor so I feel something must be in this puter..

All my programs are up to date, windows up to date and even received an update from the computer company the other day so that too is okay. this is driving me nuts!!!!

the worse part is that if there's something in my system the security programs never told me about it.

security switching off

Well I thought this issue had gone away as all been good all month. UNTIL an update this morning from Mcafee. Guess what. Once again security had turned itaelf off leaving only firewall running. Of course this happens when you are not at the PC so it sits ther unprotected for some time. If it is not sorted soon then I will going over to some other protection.

RE: security switching off

That was happening to me but lately it has been fixed. Now it seems to only happen with customers who still have last year's versions of the software, so am surprised it's still happening to you if you have the 2009 products as the developers were aware of it and fixed it.

The best way to get around this and have some peace of mind in the interim is to turn off automatic updating.

Change it to notify you first.

Double-click the taskbar icon to open Security Center
Click Advanced Menu (bottom left)
Click Configure (left)
With Security Center highlighted at top left
Click Advanced (right) under Protection Status
Click Update Options (left)
Select "Notify me before downloading any updates"
Click Apply and OK then exit Security Center.

That way it can only update when you are sitting in front of the machine.

switching off security

Sounds good in theory thanks. Only worry is that this last time I fixed it but this morning it is off again so it is not just at point of update!!!

RE: switching off security

Maybe a good idea to check for spyware then.

Download the free version of these two tools and let them clean everything they find:

http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

That can also happen if there is any similar software active, is there?

RE: switching off security

 Why have mcafee taken a subscription from my account without permission and ignored all requests to refund it. Is it not theft or sharp practice. What is going on MCAFEE. ANSWER ME PLEASE, are you taking a hundred bucks from so many million people that you are getting away with it, whats the story. CAN ANYONE SUGGEST what i can do to put a stop to this sharp practice. Believe me MCAFEE, IF YOU CONTINUE TO REFUSE TO REFUND THE MONEY YOU STOLE YOU WILL CONTINUE TO BE BLACKLISTED ALL OVER THE WEB AND BEYOND. Just give it back you thieves, no excuse.

RE: switching off security

Hi,

You seem very helpful about this issue. Are you from McAfee? My only comment is that I find some of your posts contradictory, or have I misunderstood you? You said this is a known issue and McAfee are working on it, yet when someone reports an issue, you suggest scanning for spyware.

If it's a known issue, can you elaborate on what the estimated fix time is? Throughout this thread, the key missing information is an authorative statement from McAfee.

Thanks.
