I shut down my old Sony Vaio XP desktop Tuesday night, nothing unusual about that.
Wednesday morning, the machine would not start up, got a DOS message that stated that the windows file SYSTEM.SYS was missing.
I attempted to restore using my System Restore Disks, but nothing worked.
I made three attempts to restore, and finally had to abandon all hope as my machine now states that there is no DRIVE C.
I realize the machine is ancient by today's standards, however, I'm very suspicious that this happened around the same time that McAfee screwed up PC's all around the world.
Has anyone else experienced this same or similar problem?

If the problem on your system occurred approx 30 hours earlier, it couldn't have been caused by the McAfee DAT issue.
Sorry, I inadvertantly posted the wrong days in original post. The above reply is useless...
