Mcafee icon disappears from system tray when second user logs in??

Jump to solution

I am running Windows XP professional with IE 8. Mcafee internet security version 15-06-238.

The Mcafee icon works fine when first booting the system.

However whenever a second user logs in, the icon disappears from the tray with second user and

cannot be activated or checked if virus scan is running.

-Contacted McAfee help yesterday and was (as usual advised to delete and download new version of McAfee., which I

did and problem persists.

-called again McAfee help and was escalated to Level2 ? support, but was told to circomvent the problem by

rebooting every time you log in another user.

This is most inconvenient as the terminal is shared by me and my lady and it means closing all active windows

before rebooting.

Any solution?

Glad to say,  problem finally resolved after a rather long session with the technical team.

The technician decided to reload Mcafee (which I had done the previous day) from a different server.

I am now on a version of Security centre 12.1, Build 12.1.253 and of the products  Anti virus Version 16.1, Build 16.1.144....) Seems to have done the trick.

It was however a rather straining session for me as before reloading Mcafee, the technician modified the registry keys and nothing would work after tthat. However registry keys had been backed up and after restoring them,  he was able to download Mcafee and this version seems to have resolved the problem.

Let me know if you require further details or the name of the technician who helped me.

Many thanks to evrybody for their help.

One other user reported this last week but I can't locate that thread at the moment.   I would re-contact Tech Support and insist they escalate the case because it isn't convenient rebooting to switch users and in my opinion you shouldn't have to do that.

This is obviously a bug that needs to be reported back to the developers.

I found the other thread and have asked that user to report it too.

In a footnote, this should hopefully disappear when you get the newer 12.x version.   I am reporting this through my contacts too.

The version number in the original post is for VirusScan. What version of Internet Security have you got and when was the last update?

I saw this yesterday on XP when I went into the user accounts but I thought I'd found a cause for it. I'll know when I reboot if I was correct. My Internet Security version is 11.6.477, updated 8 Feb.

Can you check if you have McAfee Security Scan Plus listed in Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs, if so uninstall it and see if that helps.

Hi,

I loaded yesterday  a version of Mcafee internal security Version 15-06-238 with Dat 6989. This did not resolve the problem I had.

Today technical support specialists loaded a new version ( see details) in my last reply to Ex_Brit which seem to have done the trick.

Hope this answer your query.
