McAfee removes executable for Avnex Voice Changer program

Jump to solution

I've been having a problem with a program I purchased from Avnex - their "Voice Changer Software", Diamond Edition. I am using McAfee 3-user Total Protection, 2010 version, and am using an HP Touchsmart iq526 with Windows 7 64 bit. Whenever I try to initiate the Voice Changer program, McAfee identifies the executable as containing an "Artemis!" trojan and removes it to the quarantined section. If I restore it from the quarantined section, McAfee promptly sends it back there. Has anyone else had that problem with that program, or is this a glitch with McAfee?

Hi, clhcah:

If you think this is a false positive detection, you'll want to submit the file to McAfee engineers.  If they determine that it's not malicious, they can send you an updated DAT file that will solve the problem.

Instructions on how to do this are here:

http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?id=TS100095

Follow the instructions carefully, as they are a bit detailed, but it's not hard.  It will explain how to get the file out of quarantine temporarily, so that you can zip it (and password protect it, as instructed) and submit for examination.

They are usually pretty quick about responding to such submissions.

More malware info is here:

https://community.mcafee.com/docs/DOC-1294

You may also wish to check the file at: http://www.virustotal.com/ for additional assurance.

Just to be sure, you may also wish to scan your system with the free versions of MBAM http://www.malwarebytes.org and/or Super-AntiSpyware: http://www.superantispyware.com/. Be sure to update them after you install them, before running your scan.

Please post back and let us know how it goes,

MM
