I had a similar / same issue a few months ago; it was 'fixed' in Total Protection v16.0.5 and (re-)installing the latest version of MVT.

I read the solution at the link you posted.  I'm not sure if this applies to me but I am having a problem with LiveSafe Firewall not turning on at all. I have been searching for a solution but can't find anything.

Windows Firewall is now enabled and protecting  my network.  I did get a new Router recently and LiveSafe wants me to add it to devices to protect by sending something in email.

I'm just not sure why Windows Firewall is turned on.  I've tried turning it off and turning on LiveSafe firewall but nothing happens so I turn Windows firewall back on.

I'm not sure what to do or if my machine is adequately protected.

I have a Windows 8.1 desktop.  I do also have Malwarebytes installed and have been running Mcafee and Malwarebytes together since I got this pc in Jan. 2016.

Hi @bobbie_m

Please confirm if you have run MVT and if the issue still remains the same. Confirm if McAfee shows that Firewall is off or if McAfee shows that Windows Firewall is On.

If McAfee shows that Windows Firewall is On, that would mean that McAfee Firewall is not installed. Please follow the below steps to and update the outcome.

1. Run McAfee Virtual Technician and reboot (Skip if you have already run MVT). Follow the article for instructions
https://service.mcafee.com/webcenter/portal/cp/home/articleview?locale=en-US&articleId=TS101111

2. If the issue remains the same after running MVT, uninstall McAfee and reboot. Folllow the article for instructions.
https://service.mcafee.com/webcenter/portal/cp/home/articleview?locale=en-US&articleId=TS101331

3. Download and run the Pre-Install tool from the link
http://download.mcafee.com/products/mvt/tools/Preinstall/consumer/Pre-Install_Tool.exe

4. Re-install McAfee. Folllow the article for instructions.

Thank you for answering.  I really appreciate the help.

I was trying to find a fix without uninstalling and installing LiveSafe because I'm worried about getting infected while I do re-install.

MVT shows 1 missing file:   File: C:\Program Files\Common Files\McAfee\Platform\mcpltcmd.exe

Thank you for the step by step on uninstalling and reinstalling.

I'm checking some things with Malwarebytes Premium too because I'd like to know why or how this happened.

Thanks

Bobbie

Hello Bobbie

Thank you for your response. I missed the point regaring Malwarebytes. If you are using Malwarebytes premium version, then it is known to cause a conflict with McAfee, because both are trying to enable their security settings on the computer. Apologies for missing out on that piece of information.

The below article has the list of applications that cause conflict with McAfee
