Help needed please!

Hiya, I'm new to this so sorry if I posted this in the wrong section

I have had the McAfee security centre for a number of years and each year I purchase the upgrade version from PC World.

This year I purchased the VirusScan Plus 2009 and tried to install it, I have tried to install it twice and it all installs fine and seems as if it will work and then asks me to restart my computer so I do and when it comes back on a red cross is over the mcafee symbol and says that I need to fix it because my subscription has expired and doesn't seem to recognise that I have even installed this newer version.

I have tried installing both discs in the pack, I have also tried the McAfee virtual technition and that just says it won't work as my subscription has expired, I don't know what else to try so if anyone can offer any help on what I need to do it would be very much appreciated .

I am using it with windows Vista

Hi ljc,

This may occur if the system date and time are incorrect, please check whether the system clock is set right.

If not correct it and then click update in security center.

The time is correct on my computer, I wondered if it had something to do with the fact that my subscription had expired before I installed the new one by a couple of days, would that affect it? Thanks.

Hi,

This could even happen if there are old mcafee remnants on  the comptuer and the new installation dint go through completely.

Run the removal tool from http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe  and restart the computer

Reinstall the programs again after you check whether the disk has new programs.

Well if I uninstall it all and then try to install the upgrade version it won't work will it as it is just an upgrade version or do I have to install the first initial mcafee and then this upgrade version? Thanks.

Hi,

In you first post , you mentioned that you were previously using Mcafee security center and now trying to install virus scan plus,

Both are different packages and not upgrades , so running the removal tool and reinstalling the new package would be the correct procedure by which all files relating to security center would be removed and a fresh install of virus scan takes place.
