Has McAfee security centre changed format?

Jump to solution

I have just had to do a full restore of my PC (puts PC back to original condition as when purchased) and while my McAfee shows as up to date it is not the same as before the restore as follows:
When I right click on a file the menu used to show the McAfee logo and the choice of scan or shred now it shows only scan. Also when loaded the security center used to show a window with 4 squares one each for Internet, email, computer, parent controls and on the right side a list of tools/options one of which was navigate ( or similar) which when clicked would show various things including shredder this is missing how do I get back to the window that I used to have and include the shredder on the right click menu.

At present it shows:

No I used my user name perhaps it is only visible to me?

After another full Dell restore I still had trouble with McAfee suit in that the original version (2008) was installed and even with the MCPR removal tool the new version would not install so tried Virtual technician and that said there were errors that it could not fix. I got hold of a McAfee Technician via chat and he was excellent he had to take over PC but I could follow his moves boy was he quick I just could not keep up with him but McAfee now back on track,   Providing that Vista is in fact up to date all should be well.  Thanks everyone.

If you did a restore to factory settings, and if McAfee came pre-installed when you purchased it, that probably accounts for the extremely dated user interface. Just to be sure, click on About and see what version of Security Center it shows you as having.

You'll probably have to uninstall this antiquated version, run the MCPR cleanup tool, and then go to "My Account Online" to download the current version (use the links in the box on the right).

Thanks Hayton as you can see an old version but the last update was 26/11/14 this should have brought it up to date surely

No look at the DAT creation date. Just remove it and reinstall from your account as Hayton suggested. That version is 5 years old. Virusscan tried to update the DAT but was unsuccessful as the program was too old. It still though put today's date as the date it tried I assume.

The version you have is no longer supported.   Here's the new one and while the text at the top may change from suite to suite or provider to provider, that's what it looks like..

Also it no longer updates using DAT's.

That is the version that I had and renewed only a few days ago,  I am also concerned that my version of Vista is not up to date, so I will do another total restore and if that produces the same version I will remove and d/l new from McAfee.

Thanks for all the help guys I will let you know what happens.

My goodness, you must have restored back several years !!   That's no mean feat! Make sure McAfee is up to date and more importantly make sure that Windows is totally up to date.  I assume Vista is SP1?  Also make sure, even if you never use it, that Internet Explorer is IE9.

Check Windows Update settings that it's set to fetch updates for all products via Microsoft Update, that also helps although some optional updates may not be necessary.  (Mine keeps offering me an older graphics driver than the one I'm using).

Sorry missed this one.are you referring to the forums user name?.. Not sure but did you by any chance use your email as a user name?

That's the usual reason for changes in user names and one of us would have done it.   Normally you would get an email from the admin eventually.,
