Disabling McAfee

Anyways, I play a game called "soldierfront"(ijji.com) and I have reason to believe that McAfee is stopping me from playing this game. I think mcafee is removing the hacking provention system in the game called GameGuard.

When I run the game, I get "multiple instants of soldierfront(4)".

Your probably saying, why are you posting this here?
I want to learn how to disable McAfee so I can play the game, then re enable it, after i'm done playing. I have already tryed playing while virus protection,spyware,syetem protections, and script scanning where disabled.

Without McAfee being fully disabled, I will not be able to find the exact cause of my problem. I have 4 years on my subscription for McAfee, and I would not prefer getting AVG free , but McAfee's restrictions make it hard to not want to go to another anti-virus protection.....anyways, im just looking for help.

Double-click the taskbar icon to open Security Center
Click Computer & Files (upper middle)
Click Configure (lower right)
Turn VirusScan off and tell it for how long, probably "Never" if you're playing the game.

Do the same with Internet & Network to disable Firewall Plus.

If necessary the same with Parental Controls etc.

To disable SiteAdvisor go through the browser Tools/manage Add-ons.

I have an installation CD(havent used it before because McAfee was pre-installed) but it says its only a trial version. Would It be better to un-install McAfee then run the game, after running reinstall mcafee?

This is a rather dangerous idea as you'll be wide open to infection. It actually shouldn't be necessary as Security Center is designed to automatically throttle back all processes when it detects gaming mode.

Try disabling the components first and see how it goes.

If not then do the following:

1. Uninstall all McAfee programs through "Add or Remove Programs" in Windows "Control Panel".

2. Use the MCPR tool, see this article: How to remove supported McAfee consumer products using the McAfee Consumer Products Removal tool (MC... This will remove all McAfee remnants from your computer. (you must have Windows Vista, XP or 2000 SP4 to use this tool)

3. Launch Windows Explorer and delete all McAfee files in "Program Files" but especially in "C:\Document and Settings\<user>\Application Data" and "C:\Document and Settings\All Users\Application Data". You have to set Windows Explorer to show all hidden files and folders (Tools > Folder Options > View tab). Just delete the McAfee folders even if they are empty in all the "Application Data" folders. Can be more than one!
In Vista: C:\Program Files, C:\ProgramData and C:\Users\yourname\AppData\Roaming
If you can't find these files don't worry. It just means that MCPR has done its job.

4. Reboot and redownload/reinstall your McAfee products directly from your account at the McAfee web site.

If you have previously registered your McAfee installation online then there will be an online account with a download there for you.
