Re: Auto update to Security Center 2010 kills Windows 7 search

I find the question, "has any1 reset search to defaults?" a bit insulting to all those who have struggled for months (it's been 6 months for me) and tried every thing from making registry changes (because that is the only way to reset the seach index in Windows 7),  to resetting computers back to factory images, backing up and restoring data, changing archive attributes on all our files, and mutiple clean installs of Windows 7....

It would have been nice if, 6 months ago when I tried resetting search defaults and it did not work, I knew that:

The simple way (and also one and only way) to fix the problem is to uninstall Mcafee, followed by a reboot, and then a rebuild of the index.

Re: Auto update to Security Center 2010 kills Windows 7 search

I wrote a reply and attempted to post it but was blocked... I can no longer post on this thread.  Said I am no longer authorized.

So my wonderful post went down the tubes.  I sense I'm likely to be censored or barred if I say what I'm thinking about now.  So be it.

Somebody wake me up if they fix the problem.

Re: Auto update to Security Center 2010 kills Windows 7 search

I'm baaack!  I have had this problem since March, 2010 when I first downloaded mucafee security to my new laptop windows 7. read my messages.  You are guys are all inventing the wheel again.  I am have gone through all of this over and over and over........

Get rid of mucafee and buy something else.  that is your only choice.  You're just hoping aginst hope as all good techies do.  they are not interested in helping you.  You have no intrinisic value to them.  When the problem reaches the level it needs to reach and they schedule the repairs in the next design cycle, then you will have a fix and not until then.  We are ants to them and there could care less.  I know that may offend some of you mods, but you have been posting for four months now how much you have been making big talk with these people and what has it gotten you? or us?

the best that you can hope for is to put in a service ticket and when the fix is in and if we are lucky they will describe the fix as related to your service ticket and then you can spend hours on the phone with customer service explaining to them and their suprervisors how you deserve to have your subscription backdated, but they will probably do what they did that caused this problem, offer to sell you the 20111 version for $10 off.  Quit wasting your time.  No one is out there listening and if they are they dont make the kind of decisions that you would need to have made to get credit and that is only if you bought directly from mucafee.  Their sales partnerships wont do anything for you as I have learned.  NO REFUNDS NO CREDIT

I am not a pessimist, I am a realist.

Re: Auto update to Security Center 2010 kills Windows 7 search

Good Grief, read my messages. I rebuilt from factory defaults five times. I replaced my computers twice. i SPENT FIVE MONTHS WORKIKNG ON RESOLVING THIS ISSUE.  I open a service ticket with HP, MS and Mucafee.  THERE IS NO SOLUTION BUT TO UNINSTALL MUCAFEE AND GET ANOTHER PRODUCT.

I give up, if you arent going to read the other peoples replies and messages that have spent hours documenting this for the come lately's, then go start yoursefl another thread.  I give up.

Re: Auto update to Security Center 2010 kills Windows 7 search

My requests, demands and threats and contacting mucafee has not gotten me anywhere.  I could not run 2008 security on win 7 and was told that i had to purchase their 2010 security.  I did and you all know the story after that.  I think that they should have provided a fix for allowing you to use earlier versions with win 7 rather than compel you to buy their most recent product which broke my search feature.

I have a lot of frustration and angst against mucafee and dont think i can ever work with them again but feel that they owe me BIG TIME after almost five months of troubleshooting this and returning my new computer and rebuilding my os five times and was on the verge of returning my second new computer when I rebuilt again and did not include mucafee and it worked great and has worked great ever since.

They have had their minds on the merge with Intel and just like politiicians today ignored their base.

I have nothing good to say about them and have empathy for the mods who try to defend this, but I quit listening to them a long time ago but cuz all they got and we got "we're looking into it" and that has been going on for several months with no update.  How can someone that works for this company ignore everything that people are saying about their product.  I feel sorry for Intel having paid 7 billions dollars for a company that ignores their customer base and keeps demanding that they buy their new product whether it fixes the problem or not.

Re: Auto update to Security Center 2010 kills Windows 7 search

I would be willing to support a class action law suit or any other combined users who wish to make this a legal issue.  I believe that is the only way to get thier attention now and they would be deserving of having to compensate their customers who have had to go it alone to even discover the problem, let alone fix it.

Re: Auto update to Security Center 2010 kills Windows 7 search

Hey Mike,

I'm sorry about the delay in my response. Generally, when someone wants to discuss some sort of legal action, we on the technical side can't go there because we have no legal expertise.

I'm responding to the other part of your post, however, to let you know we are working on a patch for this issue. I'm still waiting to find out right now what the current status is and when it will be released, so I can't answer that part of your question unfortunately. As soon as I get a response to my request for this information I will share it with the thread here.

Thanks

Re: Auto update to Security Center 2010 kills Windows 7 search

I did get confirmation from development today that there is a patch for this issue in progress. What this tells us is that this issue will be resolved in a future update, but does not tell us when that update will happen. I'll keep my ear open for that information when it's known.

Thanks!
