Any fix for continually-recreating start-menu shortcut ?

The registry fix has been posted for the continually-recreating desktop-shortcut in another thread.

Has anyone found the registry key to fix this (start menu) annoying feature?

If anyone has had Tech support fix this, perhaps they could export the registry hive so others can compare and figure this out.

This should not take tech support to figure this out on your system.  Since this is the default behavior, they should be able to figure this out with any system at their facility!

A fix is coming but in the meanwhile please contact Technical Support  Chat via Useful Links above.  They should be able to fix it for you.

I have same issue and I've contacted Tech Support via chat and they did not even try to fix the issue.  They only told me that the issue was being worked by McAfee.  Tech Support did nothing.  Please advise.

I thought they had a patch that they could give out, sorry.  As stated in answer to your post on the other thread, it is being worked on.  Meanwhile a user there posted a fix of sorts.

Thanks for the reply.  I did not feel comfortable with editing registry.   My first chat session was no help.  I've since done another chat session this morning and was re-directed to a tier 2 chat session.  That Tier-2 tech took control of my computer, push a few files and ran a patch.  Bottom line,  it is now fixed....

That's good.  Pity it took two attempts though.

I´m affraid it´s hopeless, becourse this posting is several month old, but:

Why does Mcafee not publish this patch and the steps osprey01 did use ???

It´s very annoying that this start-menu group continuess recreating !

Re: Any fix for continually-recreating start-menu shortcut ?

They did, HERE.  At least for the desktop shortcut.   As it is considered normal for an installed program to appear in the Start menu they gave the reappearance in that spot issue a very low priority.

What operating system is this as there may be a general workaround available?

Re: Any fix for continually-recreating start-menu shortcut ?

OK, my fault ! I thougt it was a fix for the continously recreated start-menu group.

The issue about the desktop-icon have i also had, but fixed it with the patch from Mcafee.

I thought last day that i had solved the start-menu-error as i marked the Mcafee-folder as

"Hidden" (Right click and so on....) and as "Protected".

The first 2 boot-sequences the Start-menu group was NOT rebuild...but then it came again 😞

I have a standard Win-7 professionel, 64-bit system.

There may be something in this forum that may help, not sure though.

http://www.sevenforums.com/

Be careful though as you don't want to prevent McAfee from starting with Windows.

Apart from that I suggest opening a case with Technical Support Chat (link under "Useful Links"  above and ask them to escalate it if necessary.
