Hi,
The Security Centre icon doesn't open in Windows 8. The tray icon has also disappeared, and there hasn't been any new updates for a while. At the same time, no other apps are able to update either - i.e: Windows update, Vaio, Java, etc. Java was automatically updating, and I've just had to install the latest version manually. But, the problem still persists. I've uninstalled and reinstalled McAfee, and while that fixed the problem for a short while, it then reverted back to not opening.
I've run Virtual Tech, and the results are:
Virus Scan 16.1.144 - Problem: Language is not supported.
Security Centre 12.1.253 - Problem: Missing/Corrupt COM components.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Uninstall McAfee via Control Panel > Programs
Run the MCPR cleanup tool listed under "Useful Links" at the top of this page
Reboot
Reinstall your software from you online account.
Thanks for the reply.
I'm having problems with the MCPR cleanup too, which is telling me I have Family Protection, but I don't have any icon to click in order to get the uninstall code! I assume there must be a file somewhere that was probably pre-installed when I bought the laptop 2 months ago.
Isn't it listed in Control Panel > Programs?
How to Uninstall Family Protection
You try rebooting and then run MCPR again.
It was, and I did. But once the reboot was done, MCPR still insists I have Family Protection.
Then I am stumped for an answer. Best contact Technical Support. It's free by phone or online chat and linked under Useful Links at the top of this page.
For your area I think the online chat is open 24/7 but the phone option is only 0900-1700 Mon - Fri.
I will do that, and reprot back with anything useful.
Thanks for your help.
Good luck 😉
