Hello.
I have an Acer laptop (Vista) with McAfee Total Protection.
Recently I've changed my internet provider and for the time being switched from wireless to ethernet cable. That's when the problems came. The connection gets lost after a while so I have to restart the computer. Also the computer may occasionally crash with a blue screen. My provider claims the anti-virus causes this. I've uninstalled it and this proved to be true - problems were gone and reappeared after I've installed McAfee once again.
Will appreciate your help gents.
Hello bosnuk,
Windows Vista has an auto-tuning feature for network components that can cause connection issues. You can turn off the network auto-tuning feature to test if it is causing connection problems.
Solution
Disable network auto-tuning:
If this does not resolve the connection issue, use the following procedure to re-enable network auto-tuning:
Please let me know if the above resolved the issue or not.
Thanks,

Hi bosnuk,
Are you using any other Network Software?
Are you using a Router?
Are you using a Static IP Address from the Router or Dynamic?
Is the operating system, fully patched?
Are the Blue Screens, the same information or different? If different, each time, your Computer Ram may be going defective. Take a Digital Snapshot of the Blue Screen of Death each time they occur. PrtScrn Snapshots, do not work.
Anti-Virus Software does not cause Blue Screen of Deaths, but its Firewall drivers can cause Blue Screen of Death.

This is very recent, but on a Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 3's Wireless Computer. I am running Wireless on a Desktop Computer.
The Anti-Virus can't cause a loss of signal, but the Firewall blocking something from your ISProvider, might.
Hello Dinesh. Appreciate yr help, however looks like this is not the case.
Many thanks.
Hello TheCreator.
No network software. No router, just a switch. Yes, my Vista is up-to-date.
Here's what event viewer shows:
Process **\MCSVHOST.EXE pid (2728) contains signed but untrusted code, but was allowed to perform a privileged operation with a McAfee driver.
Thanks!

What is the Brand Name, Model Number, Hardware Rev and Firmware, if any for the switch?
Is there a Factory Reset Button, in the back for the Switch?

Hi bosnuk,
http://www.trendnet.com/products/proddetail.asp?prod=355_TE100-S5&cat=114
Did you try a different port on the switch to see if it makes a difference?
After you uninstalled McAfee, did you reboot the computer?
Have you manually cleaned all the files and sub-folders of your Windows \Temp folders, then ran Disk Cleanup?
I don't know how a switch operates. Is it directly connected to your Cable Modem, DSL Modem or FIOS Router?
Do you constantly leave the Laptop on? Does it go into Hiberation? When is the Internet lost?
Hi.
Nope, I didn't touch the switch. Everything works perfectly fine without McAfee. I don't remember rebooting computer, not sure..
Didn't clean it either.
The switch is connected directly to cable.
Sometimes I turn the laptop off, sometimes just send it into hiberation.
The connection is usually lost while I'm actually browsing. I have a feeling that it's more likely to disappear on a traffic-intense sites - youtube, etc. And since it's lost the connect button just doesn't work until I reboot.

Hi ,
What do you have installed that is McAfee? In other words, What is installed? Total Protection? Internet Security Suite and what year?
VirusScan 2009 and Firewall 2010, as examples.
