Configure Mcafee firewall for remote printing

I need to set up the Mcafee firewall in my desktop to enable remote printing from my laptop and also to access files on my desktop. The printer is connected to my desktop. Without Mcafee firewall, printing possible but as soon as the firewall is up, no access to desktop is possible so no printing. Can anyone please help me out of this quandry? I hope I am posting this at the right location.

Re: Configure Mcafee firewall for remote printing

Hi,

Could you please provide me with the following information,

What is the OEM of your printer?  (Epson,Acer/Dell)
Check the printer manual and find out if it reqiures any port or services to be opened.
Open  security center and let me know whether it says : “Am I protected YES” or “Your Computeris secure” either one of these to find out the version installed in your computer ?

Moving thread to personal firewall 11- 2010

Re: Configure Mcafee firewall for remote printing

I am having the same problem, firewall enabled my kids laptops are uable to access files or printer on my wired computer. Do the computers that are connecting to the wireless network have to have McAfee protection to work?

Re: Configure Mcafee firewall for remote printing

If your computers are both behind a router, then you can try to enable Windows File Sharing in Firewall:

- Open McAfee SecurityCenter and go to Firewall feature, expand Ports and System Services;

- Look for "Windows File Sharing (NETBIOS).." and click on the checkbox before it;
