Vulnerability insists on "updating" program that's not on my machine

Vulnerability Scanner (Ver. 2.1) insists on "updating" Adobe Reader, although Adovb Reader is not installed on my machine. I use Adobe Acrobat.

If I allow the "update," it downloads Reader and makes that the default program for pdfs, which means I have to manually change the default program back to Acrobat.

Is there a way to modify the settings so VS doesn't look for Adobe Reader (which, as I say, isn't even installed on my machine)?

Thanks.

Ken

Re: Vulnerability insists on "updating" program that's not on my machine

Unfortunately there isn't a way around that until they fix an obvious flaw.  It appears it can't differentiate between the 2 Adobe products, which of course it should.

I would report this to Technical Support if I were you.  Meanwhile hopefully someone will spot this and also relay it back to the developers.

Until it's fixed, uncheck that update when it's offered.

Is this glaring Vulnerability Scanner flaw still not fixed?

I wouldn't describe it as glaring, however this particular issue was fixed.    The only problem recently has been that MVS misreads the version of Java installed and suggests you install it again as an optional download.  That's all that has been happening recently.  This is a very old thread.

Agree that there is an error with the vulnerability scanner picking up acrobat and assuming it is reader and then tries to update by installing reader, every time.

I have removed all traces of reader from my computer using Adobe software removal tool and it still wants to update acrobat to reader.

So it is definitely a problem with MacAfee.

Re: Vulnerability insists on "updating" program that's not on my machine

It shouldn't be finding Adobe updates now if it's up to date.

What version do you have?  (click "About").Mine is 4.0.9022.

Mine finds an update, but it's for 7-Zip  and I have Adobe Reader installed but nothing found for that.

Check you don't have 2 versions of Adobe installed, sometimes happens.  They'll be listed in Control Panel > Programs and Features.

It really is no big deal.  Turn its scheduled scan off and it wont bother you.

It's only there as a tool and a guideline.

Re: Vulnerability insists on "updating" program that's not on my machine

I have 4.0.9022 as well. Mine is definitely picking up my Adobe Acrobat X 10.1.16 and thinking it needs to upgrade to reader 11.

I definitely don't have any other versions of adobe installed.

Yep, I have set the vulnerability scanner to have no scheduled scan now.

Cheers, until the next time....

I don't have Acrobat but I believe the latest is 10.1.16.  My reader is Version 2015.016.20039

Anyway, hopefully MVS will be fixed soon.  They're aware of false findings.

I have a similar problem, this time it's Java not adobe.

I have uninstalled Java and removed the java folder in programmes but the vulnerability scan still tells me to update java.

I am  operating Windows 10 Pro and BTprotect has added Mcafee which has replaced Avast

,

As Colleague Ex_Brit mentioned, the Engineers are aware of this issue and are currently addressing it. This has recently been a Topic discussed during one of our weekly Conference Calls. I might add that I personally experienced such myself.

It occurred with me as I am running Windows 7 Sp1, the Version/Build I am running is 4.0. (9022)

Hopefully the Bug will be fixed soon. Thank you for informing us as well

All the Best,

-CD
