Just to concur - windows 7 pro 64bit and running Dell supplied McAfee Security Center, after a rebooting the system today there are now multiple copies of Qcshm.exe running. Under the McAfee settings for QuickClean, it is not scheduled to run.
Perfect match to my system - "windows 7 pro 64bit and running Dell supplied McAfee Security Center". Seem to occur every three hours plus every time an update check is done plus when the "about" window is opened, and plus when the Quick Clean window is opened.
22 running copies of QcShm.exe so far!
Was not able to open the interface:
"An update is being installed
Please wait until the McAfee finishes the installation of your software"
I could/will restart my system (Dell Windows 7 with McAfee LiveSafe) if I have to .. will give it a little more time to see if McAfee finishes its "update"
I have to restart the system in the middle of an update being installed
Please follow my advice in post #3.
Make certain you follow these instructions per Ex_Brit,s Post #3
Oops I forgot to tell you that you'd need to turn off Access Protection temporarily to do that.
Open the interface.
Click Navigation and then General Settings and Alerts
Click Access Protection to expand
Turn off and click Apply.
Keep that open until you've finished and then simply turn it back on again.
Click Apply.
I also have seen this too:
Was not able to open the interface:
"An update is being installed
Please wait until the McAfee finishes the installation of your software"
Note - all three people have WIn7 / Dell
